    Unhappy Front tire wear

    Hello All,

I recently got a 2005 Z750S, the other day a guy was looking at it and showed me that the front tire had a line/bump along the circumference of the tire.

I rubbed my finger across the tire and I could feel a bump along the side of the tire, just about an inch from the tire center line, its only on the left side . He said the cause was the way Colorado roads are designed.

It is true? Is it anything I need to fix, align ? Could it be the front fork seal? I know they need replacement.

Thanks in advance for any input.

The crown on the roads is for water drainage and can cause this kind of wear. It never hurts to look your bike over. Check for leaking seals, triple clamp bolts being right, pinch bolts, axle, calipers etc. at the back of the bike check for chain tension, wheel alignment etc.

    Re: Front tire wear

The single biggest cause of cupping wear on front tires is underinflation. The correct tire pressure for your bike can be found on a sticker on the swingarm, or on the VIN sticker on the steering head.

    Re: Front tire wear

I checked my tire pressure and it is low.

While looking for the psi on the tire I noticed the arrows are pointing on the wrong direction!!

Is it a matter of just flipping the wheel around or do I have to remount the tire?

    Thanks.

    Crap!

The tire is new. Michelin Pilot, If I can just flip it around I might try that to see if it wears out. I think is worth the try.

    Thanks.

    Re: Front tire wear

Check the rotation arrow on the sidewall of the tire for correct rotation, as the tread design may LOOK backwards on some tires. Usually, cupping wear will not resolve itself by increasing pressure. The sidewall pressure on the tire may not be correct for your bike, rather it represents the maximum design pressure for which the tire was tested. If the tire is indeed mounted backwards, it would need to be dismounted and remounted correctly, as most wheels have a designed rotation direction, usually marked on the left hand side of the wheel(as you sit on the bike).
    Thanks, Jim

    Re: Front tire wear

    Thank you for the info,

Yes the arrows are facing the wrong direction. The owners manual says 36psi front 42psi rear.

I got a front tire stand lined up for tomorrow. I think there's a member of the forum that do tire replacement close me.

I will have to look him up.

    Thanks.

Thank you all for the input,

    The wheel was installed backwards.

I flipped it around, will keep an eye on how it wears now.

    Thanks.

Glad you noticed that before riding it too much!

FYI Because we drive on the right-hand side of the road you get more wear on the left of the tire. If you do a lot of long rides or commuting like I do, it's just a fact of life. http://www.rattlebars.com/tirewear/
