    Sedona, AZ - Now with ride report!

    Ride report starts on post 7.

    The wife and I are planning to go to Sedona next month to do some riding and enjoy some warmer weather. We plan to trailer down so we can take our motor and push bikes. Anyone ridden around that area? Looking for some tips to make the most of it.

    Here a couple of routes that seem interesting:

    A lot of the riding in AZ is awesome. Get a hold of HOTCARCASS. He's done a lot of riding down there. We mostly ride between Alpine AZ and Clifton AZ. That's an amazing ride and totally worth the time.

    I saw this posted in another forum:

    For AZ riders or anyone visiting this summer, here is a significant road closure from Mem Day to July 4. (Forum mgrs - move/remove as necessary)
    ==============
    A popular road that connects Flagstaff to Sedona will be closed for five weeks this summer. State Route 89A will be shut down during a busy tourist season.
    The three mile stretch of road is known as the switchback for its steep and winding terrain. The closure will begin Memorial Day and wrap up on the Fourth of July. The state highway department will make repairs to the pavement, guardrails and to a bridge. Arizona Department of Transportation Spokesperson Dustin Krugel said crews will also repel from rocks to do some of the work.
    “We need to have a full closure through this area just to provide sufficient space to perform rock scaling work that we’re gonna be doing along with sections of roadway that have very steep grades with little to no shoulders," said Krugel.
    Visitors who want to want to get to Flagstaff from Sedona will have to take State Route 179 to Interstate 17. Businesses near Sedona will remain open.

    You might want to do some checking around to see if there are closures happening ahead of this.

    Came through from Prescott to Sedona on 89a last year during a ride coming back from the Devil's Highway. I would rate it in the top ten of great twisty roads. Shame they're shutting it down for so long. Would be a definite don't miss if you're in that area.

    Just got back from being in Sedona for a week. What a place! Weather was great and the roads were a riot. All told it was 950 miles on the bikes, ~30 miles of hiking, and I lost track of how many drinks we had during our evenings out.

    As for the route(s); Here is a taste of what we rode. In addition, we also stopped by Moab on the way back and rode around Arches and hwy 128. Thats another place I would love to spend more time at.

    I've seen those two bikes before... somewhere... can't quiet put my finger on it! =)

    Nice trice and pictures! Where did you start? Did you ride from CO or trailer to a starting location?

    I'm jealous and especially now that Mrs. Clovis and I have a 4 week old... trips like these are things of the past for awhile.

    He trailered down. Sedona is a solid 12 hour drive from here and the weather is way too sketchy this time of year to attempt that. We made the trip directly on the way down but stopped in Moab for a night on the way back. That's a good way to break up the trip and the half a day of riding we did around the Moab area was well worth it.
