2014 MRA New Rider Race School

    So you want to Roadrace?

Welcome to the exciting introduction to road racing. For the rare few of us, nothing can replace the exhilaration and challenge road racing can provide. Road racing is one of those rare sports that can humble the "fastest street rider" in no time. The racetrack is the ultimate arbitrator of who is truly the fastest motorcyclist by rewarding a rider’s own skills and abilities without the annoying distractions and dangers public roads present.

The Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA) will be holding its 2014 Race School, April 18th and 19th. This is a great opportunity for new riders wanting to get licensed or racers wanting a pre-season refresher.

The on track school will be held in conjunction with a lapping day at High Plains Raceway, Saturday April 19th. Licensed racers can ride during the open lapping session and race school students will be coached by instructors during the MRA session. Race school students will practice starting, braking and cornering drills, and work on race lines.

Classroom session will be in the Fay Myers Clubhouse on Friday April 18th. Doors open at 6pm, class starts at 7pm.

    Fay Myers Motorcycle World
    9700 E Arapahoe Rd
    Greenwood Village, CO 80112

On-track session will be at High Plains Raceway on Saturday April 19th. Students to be unloaded and ready to go by 7:30am. We’ll meet for a 7:30 riders meeting, tech the bikes and be on track at 9:30.

    High Plains Raceway
    93301 E US Highway 36
    Deer Trail, CO 80105
Directions: To reach the track, exit I-70 at Byers (Exit #316) and take highway 36 due East for 17 miles.

Registering for the 2014 Race School is handled by the MRA's Race Management System, RaceWurx. Instructions for can be found at : http://mra-racing.org/racewithus/

For more information please contact New Rider Director Jeff Brown 303-210-0425 or jeff@12voltracing.com

Is it open doors for the class, or do you need to register and pay etc?

A question on this, so this school will cover the actual license to race for the year as well correct? Or do you have to pay another fee to achieve this. Also what does a ninja 300 qualify for as far as classes?

The $200 is for the school only, which includes your full track day. A full lapping day at HPR is normally $160, so in essence you are paying an extra $40 for the school. The race license is $200 for all participants of the race school. Normal license fee right now is $250 so we are giving you a $50 break.

Your Ninja 300 is eligible to run a lot of classes since the MRA allows smaller displacement bikes to complete in classes with bikes that are greater displacement. However, your Ninja 300 would only be competitive in the Production 400 class which is run both Saturday and Sunday, Lightweight Grand Prix, Lightweight Endurance and Colorado Class. Since you will be a Novice, you could also enter Novice GTU on it but you will be competing against 600's.

Ok thanks for answering that, but now this brings into question if you do 2 superstreet events, you qualify for a novice license, would that still mean you have to pay the 250 fee to actually obtain the license after the 2 superstreet? Also if only racing the 400 production class how much would you say the entry fee is for that only? And I am familiar with the 250$ for the "race your ass off". Thanks for taking the time to answer.

If you do 2 Super Street classes, you can petition the New Rider Director for your race license. If approved, it will be $200.

If you only enter the Production 400 class on Saturday and Sunday, your entry fee would be $210. It's $140 for the first race, $70 for the 2nd.

So I saw the weather tonight saying that there is a 30% chance of rain on Saturday. What's the plan in the event that 30% winds up being over HPR? I'm too old to ride in the rain man....

The rain chance doesn't really happen until after 3:00 PM, I would plan on the event going off as planned. The classroom session will take place on Friday night regardless of the rain chance on Saturday. The new rider director will make a determination at that time regarding the on track sessions the next day.

There is a make-up date on a future weekend in the event that the riding portion of the school is cancelled. Typically if the event is cancelled by the MRA the make up day will be covered by your existing fee. If you choose not to ride, then you would have to pay for the track day to make up the on-track work and work with the new rider director to arrange for an instructor to meet you at the track.

I figured the class portion may cover this, but I don't want to wait and I don't want to wait.

There was a lot of wrecking, but it was awesome! Feeling 10000x better on my machine and abilities, def shaved off lap times from last year.

Big thanks to HPR staff and MRA board members who made this event happen. That was a huge attendance to handle, and I think you did great! Hopefully most of the riders will compete and fill up the grids this season.

I completely agree. Good learning opportunity and one hell of a time. Each instructor was assigned three students. There were about 47 students this year, with a wide range of skill level.

Does anyone have pictures/video of the mock race? Bonus points if they feature a yellow 2003 GSXR 600. Negative if they show said bike being overtaken
