Would anyone be interested in a Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 this summer?

So I've wanted to do an offical saddle sore for years and I planned on running it solo but it would be nice to have a riding partner with a similar mindset.

What is it? The SS1000 is the Iron Butt Association entry level ride. It's a timed ride covering 1,000 miles within 24 hours. Typically this ride takes 18 hours to complete.

For your trouble, you get a certificate detailing your accomplishment and also a niffty license plate holder to tell everyone just how badass your ass is.

You must understand that being a timed run means very little in the way of sight seeing at least a few hours of night time riding. I'm thinking leave the house around 3AM and be home around 9PM. So a few pictures, lunch on the road. I'll ride this on my FJR which has a 250 mile range. Stops for gas eat up a lot of time, even when you're quick and pump while never getting off the bike. Your bike should have a range of at least 150 miles.

For more information Google "Iron Butt Saddlesore 10000" or click the link below.

Here's a route I put together a couple years ago. It's 1085 miles door to door from my house. This one is 100% in Colorado but I'm also looking at doing a Colorado/New Mexico version.

If you're interested in going, reply here and/or PM me. I'm in Colorado Springs but if you're in Denver my thought is we could either meet along the way or you could ride down the day before, stay here and we'll leave from my house in the morning. I have 3 guest beds and extra garage space.

Time frame: Ideally sometime in June. The longest day of the year is June 21st, however I already have a Durango trip planned for this day so maybe a little before or after.

I would prefer to run this during the week (ie Friday) to minimize traffic.

Interested in going? Let me know!

I need to give it a go, here's what happened last time I tried in mid June

Wouldn't mind trying on the KLR650 but I'm not sure that bike would comfortably keep up at your pace.

Not if you're riding with Clovis. Klr is great bike for that otherwise.

Is that picture along the state line Blue? Looks like a "Colorado" sign in the distance... as if it's saying "Colorado, doom to all ye who enter!".

I'll be doing this ride on my (new) FJR.

I'm interested, been meaning to do this. Will probably do it on the Buell. Fuel range is 160-180 miles or so. Some Friday in June sounds doable to me. Later will give me more of a chance to finish welding up a set of hard bags, but that's not all that important for this trip. My home base is in Fraser, 240 miles into your current proposed route, but when a date is decided, plans and meetup can be refined. Think of me as 70% likely to do this.

Nah, it was in Eagle, coming from Silverthorne. Snow hit me right at the tunnel but a trucker in Silverthorne told me it was all clear ahead so I kept going. Got to Eagle and said screw this. By the time I made it back to the tunnel heading east there was enough snow that I was riding in the tracks left by the cars...

Planning on running this on Saturday. Weather looks great all around.

The plan is to leave my house around 3AM and head to New Mexico. I'll be doing the same route as last week's Durango route except heading to Pagosa Springs from Chama, NM and then over to Durango rather then heading west to Farmington and then north to Durango.

1005 miles. Should take about 16-17 hours to cover.

I'm planning on running it solo because time is of the essence and I need to move quickly, so I'll be riding at a "Clovis pace".

Damn, they're gonna be clogging up the GRand Mesa the day I'm riding it. Hopefully I'm early enough to beat them.
