    New Li-Ion Battery Dead?

    Hey,

So I got a Li-Ion battery a few months ago and I think I left the parking light on because its dead. When I turn the key nothing lights up or turns on. Wont even attempt to start. Can I jump it with a car that is off? Did I kill it for good or will a li-Ion charger work?

    ...Thanks.

Check your stator/rectifier. Just use a 2 amp charger, don't jump it with a car, it may cause more damage than help or use a jump box.

Discharging a Li-Ion battery below 8 volts will generally kill it.

And I'll go one step further and say that charging it should be done with close supervision. LION batteries get REALLY unstable when they are discharged below 8V and can swell and catch fire if they are charged from this state. You can't leave this thing on a charger somewhere overnight if you're going to try to save it. You need to watch it the whole time it's charging. If it starts to swell - stop charging IMMEDIATELY.

    Sorry for the bad news.

    Check voltage with multimeter first.

What brand of battery is it? It's probably using LiFePo4 cells, a bit different than the usual "lithium-ion".

Take the battery out of the bike before you do anything.

The LiFePo4 batteries are supposedly much less susceptible to fire. I would ask the manufacturer to see what they would do, other than buy a new one

2A charge rate is normal for these cells. If the battery has a balance plug, use a balance charger, even better. The battery manufacturers usually have a charger to sell as well...

I took it into the local shop here in Silverthorne and he put it on two different chargers and he said it didn't even register. I am headed to a Denver shop where I bought it just under 3 months ago and see what they said.... But I am pretty sure its junk... : (

    Thanks for the advice!

I completely killed my Ballistic battery, but I bought their special charger and was able to bring it back to life. Ive had it running strong in my bike for over a year since. If you want to come to the Springs ill let you try my fharger.
