"If not us, who? If not now, when?"
Yep, those are the ones... Like I said, makes it look real easy right?
Well I saw this caveat:
I suppose I have this model, it wasn't exactly clear on the packaging/product information sheet.Note: for model HNDNT, the spring tab is located deeper inside the handle bar than the other models. It is thus
more difficult to remove the insert and using the 2 screw drivers. We suggest that if you experience difficulty
that you take your bike into your Honda dealer and have their mechanic remove the insert for you.
I wish I could remember how I did it. I know I didn't have a special tool and it was a pain. Sorry not much help. I'll look at me service manual when I get home and see if that helps.
I've got more flavor than a packet of macaroni.
Yea, that would be great. Someone responded in the VFRW thread, but somewhat vaguely and I'm still not clear on what needs to be done.
Do you remember pulling off the throttle tube itself, or were you able to get at it without pulling that apart?
Sorry for the thread-jack Clovis
Try looking through these. I didn't get a chance to look through the manual as I was getting my bike ready for my trip this weekend.
I remember rolling the grip back and using pliers and a screw driver to pry/rip the clip out. I can't remember if that was the successful way I got them out though. The experience was so traumatizing I seem to have blocked most of it out.

lol.
Looking at http://www.manicsalamander.com/media...er_removal.pdf <<< makes me think I do have to remove the throttle tube... otherwise, there's no way to expose the two holes in the shaft of the handlebars.
This video is for another Honda, but seems to confirm those suspicions...
I think I'm going to have to take it to the stealership. I think FayMeyers i the closest one to me, hopefully they can take care of it tomorrow. I need to get a spare key or two for the bike as well...
Edit - this post seems to confirm my fears of needing to remove the throttle tube...
Nothing is ever easy!

I took some pictures of the the removal via the Honda manual, I'll post them here in a bit to see if that helps you, I'm running a bit behind this morning.

Hey Clovis, can you PM the route? I need to be back for a BBQ around 4:30 but may try to ride a good part of the day with you before I have to shoot back.

First time rider with you folk - came across the forums last year, but never got around to join on a ride.
Let this be the first one!
Quick question for the regulars - should I wear a leather jacket (Have a 2-pc A* suit), or a full mesh jacket + kevlar jeans?
My only concern with wearing the full suit is it'd suck if it gets too warm. But perhaps we'll be in high enough altitudes that it will be relatively cool all throughout?
It'll probably be in the 70's most of the day at higher altitudes. You'd be fine in the 2 piece. I always say it's better to sweat than to bleed.

Here is the route from the first post

"If not us, who? If not now, when?"
Thanks for the tips, I will be in the leathers then!
I found a cheap airbnb room in BV, I think I'll head out there tonight and stay over since otherwise I'd be riding in from Boulder in the morning
See you guys there!
Jmetz, thanks for the effort. I just took it to the stealership, I didn't want to mess with it...
The guy at the shop even commented on how difficult it was to remove. I didn't have time to mess with it, just wanted it done. Thanks again for the pics tho!
So the dealer got it in for you?
"If not us, who? If not now, when?"
Justin, what time are you expecting to be back in BV (after the route)?

Pick the slower of the two so we can keep up.
Do you know the direction you're going yet?
Most likely counter-clockwise. Weather has thunderstorms in the afternoon so it's better to ride Indie in the morning and Monarch in the afternoon.
"If not us, who? If not now, when?"
Sounds good. I'll meet you guys at the gas station in Paoina like I did last year. I'll text you when I get there.
In on this. See you guys in the AM.

I'd like to try to make breakfast. If anyone wants to meetup at MOCO and caravan down, I'll probably be hitting there around 5:45am... KSU at 6am so we can make it to Jan's by 8!
