Well last weekend I was riding with some buddy's from the club and one of the bikes 06 636 developed a lower end knock above 3000 rpm. Me being a technician of 24 years, I decided to drop the engine out of his bike yesterday. Pulled the oil pan off and noticed a ton of bronze bearing material laying in the bottom of the oil pan. At that point, I knew it was either rod and or main bearing problem. Found #3 rod big end very loose. Split case half and removed #3 rod cap and BAM, there it was, spun bearing. Inspected other rod and Main bearings, all others ok. Ordered parts and will be completing job next weekend. It's amazing with all of the technology and forums on the net, all the searches for engine noise were write ups about the notorious Kawi Timing Chain Tensioner tick. But was glad the problem jumped right out at me when I removed the pan.
