That article hit the nail square on the head. The problem at Ducati, is Ducati.

Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

I wonder if VW owning them now will get any changes, Germans love their engineers, and love to win. Maybe they'll implement the 8mm/10mm someday?

It sure hasn't made a difference at VW, with their 9/11/13/14/15/16/17 mm hardware on their cars. It seems like JASO standard hardware would be both cheaper and easier to use than bespoke weird sizes. Since the bikes have to add weight to make minimum anyhow, I don't see any advantage in using whackadoodle hardware. The situation at Ducati sounds a lot like where Yamaha's racing program was at pre Kenny Roberts, or at Honda towards the end of Mick Doohan's run...
    Thanks, Jim
