Overall we had a great trip, got to see Cat's family and put about 1200 miles on the bikes around North Carolina mainly in the Smokies. The weather was a bit brisk and we did get rained on but still it was worth it. We had the roads mostly to ourselves and saw some amazing scenery. Some of the roads down there are just amazing! Our favorite was actually off of the dragon near Fontana damn, basically 10 miles of sweeping curves with pristine road and a great green canopy overhead.

Nice pics! We were there the last week of September. I personally loved the riding on 28, and the Cherohala Skyway for some high speed sweepers. I want to go back and spend more time on the NC side of the mountains.

I used to think we had nice roads in Colorado, until we did the Gap and the surrounding areas. We were grinning inside our helmets from the clean and smooth pavement, and no tar snakes for the most part. I guess not having 1) heavy through traffic, and 2) frost heaves, leaves the pavement in great shape. For me it was tough at first getting used to the complete lack of shoulders and having trees right up to the edge of the road.

I'll post up next spring once I have my schedule locked in. I go just about every year, either spring or fall while schools are still in. Much better riding when you don't have to deal with the tourists.

Good! I experienced the back end of a semi blocking the road on my first trip there. I was committed and made it thru a 3 foot gap. Didn't think much about it at the time...could have turned out not so good tho.

Good they are banning trucks, every left hand curve the trailers usually come over into the lane and that is scary as hell when you are moving fast as they tae most of both lanes.

Sounds like they made the right decision, too bad they took a couple years longer than their neighbor to figure it out it is a major safety issue for anyone travelling on that stretch of highway.
