Anyone able to help take off a front wheel?

Hit another damn nail and need to get the front tire off of the sv 650. I think I've got all the parts but the Allen wrench needed to get the axel out. Tfog is booked but can hook me up if I can bring in the wheel off bike. Can anyone help me out? I'm in Arvada. Cell 720-530-7341

You should be able to get that allen wrench at Home Depot; that's where I got mine. Be forewarned, it's kind of expensive and you have to buy a whole set of them (or at least I did). I think $40-50.

Do you have a way of getting the front wheel off the ground? If not you can get a stand or you can build your own using pipes and straps (that's what I did) all though this option only works if your bike has a center stand.

Yep that's what I use, love it. I also have a front stand. I'd let you borrow both, but I'm in the Springs

Or if you figure out what size your front wheel is, get a bolt with that size head, like so


two nuts that fit on it like so, put the nuts on the threads and tighten them together. Use a wrench to loosen the axle nut, and you're golden.

Harbor freight ftw, I do main line work and most of their tools are still holding rather well. I think I paid like $10 for a full set of 3/8 Allen sockets.

Bryan (Drano) and I tried Wrider's method last year. Bought a perfectly sized bolts and 2 nuts, and had zero luck. Both of us put everything we had into it, to the point that I felt like I'd break something. I've wrenched all my life, and I've got a pretty good idea when bolts are going to break, and this one wasn't far off. I'm not saying his method doesn't work, but I absolutely don't like it and haven't had luck with it.

Bought the proper tool pictured above, took the axle out no problem. And it wasn't tight, the bolt was just twisting.

I'll be upgrading the smaller set. The 6mm pops out of the socket. The bigger set is great for as often as they get used.

I found the correctly sized hex socket for my SV's front axle in a 3-piece set at AutoZone for ~$15. The size you need is H12 (12mm) iirc.
