Think I'm going to have to pass on this one, Das Bike won't be here until mid-June, maybe later, and I've got to break it in, get serivced, and burn through the SuperCorsa's that come on it. Plus, I won't have the tank bag or luggage system set up yet. Also, I need to be around in June because of product testing work.

    Have fun and be safe!

Re: Notice: Black Hills - 5 Day Moto Trip - June 11 thru 15th

Attendee list updated -- looks like we have 4 going unless someone decides last minute.

    1) Clovis (Justin)
    2) Ezrider (Jeff)
    3) Aaron (Aaron)
    4) Titus (Al)

I booked the hotels last night. 2 rooms, each with 2 beds.

Thursday (Night 1) - We're staying at the classy Motel 6 on Thursday in Hot Springs.
Fri/Sat/Sun, check out Monday - We're staying at The Super 8 in Deadwood, SD.

Total hotel cost is about a grand so figure roughly $250 per person.

If you would like to come, please let me know ASAP! The trip is in two weeks but the hotels (especially in Deadwood) are filling up fast.

For dinner in Hot Springs, go to the Vault if you want good bar food. I recommend the 6 cheese three layer of Texas toast grilled cheese. The buffalo chicken sandwich is good too. For better food, go to Wooly's, they have a great ribeye and an awesome steak sandwich.

If if you happen to be passing through Hill City around lunch, the Alpine Inn has some tasty German food.

When passing through Wind Cave state park and Custer state park, there are usually cops lurking around the entrances and occasionally through out the park, but if you see one chances are you won't see another. PRO TIP: buffalo are very dangerous and occasionally herds will be right next to or even on the road so be careful if they are in your area.

Clovis I think we should follow his food suggestions! I'm hoping for good eating.

As of today I have 35.75 hours off, just over 4 to go. Shouldn't be a problem!

Re: Notice: Black Hills - 5 Day Moto Trip - June 11 thru 15th

I may be able to make this trip. Still trying to get guaranteed time off. If I do confirm, I can handle getting my hotel rooms. Hot Springs the first night and Deadwood the rest, correct?

Bike is a KTM RC8R, relatively fresh PR4s(probably 1000-1500 miles on them) for tires.

Should know in a couple of days.

Updated the attendee list -- added Hotcarcus (Sal) so now our band is up to 5.

The riders in this group are all experienced and fast, so this should be a fun one!! One week to go!

Hey RPMWFO - didn't see you post until just now.

Would be great if you can make it. COrrect on the hotels.

HotSprings we're staying at the Motel 6 on Thursday night and Fri/Sat/Sun we'll be at the Super 8 in Deadwood.

I have 2 hotels reserved at both - looks like we'll have 5 now, plus you if you can make it. An option usually available is a roll away bed. The super 8 is sold out of rooms at this point so that may be the best option if you want to stay at the same hotel.

I'll call around and check hotels. Any particular requirement to stay at the same hotels? Both towns seem pretty small. If there is availability at something up the street, I figure that work.

Re: Notice: Black Hills - 5 Day Moto Trip - June 11 thru 15th

The only real advantage of staying at the hotel is to make things easier -- ie, we can get breakfast as a group, leave as a group, dinner as a group, etc.

There are more hotels in nearby Spearfish, SD. Deadwood has a lot of casinos and is somewhat of a touristy town. I work for a bank based in Sioux Falls, SD and one of my friends at the bank is taking a trip to Deadwood that weekend with some of his friends and we were going to get together over the weekend for drinks and good times.

I just called the Deadwood Super 8 to see if they have a roll away bed - no go. They're completely booked that weekend.

But you might be in luck - I got a text from Hotcarcus (Sal) yesterday that he's almost certain to come which means we'll have 6 people, assuming Al is a for sure go -- which means you would be able to split the hotel cost with another person.

Take a look at Kayak.com or any of the other hotel searches. Hotels in Hot Spring for night 1 are easier to come by.

Called the Super 8, they were booked up solid. I booked a room at Holiday Inn Express(6/12 - 6/15) up the road about a mile. I'll look for something in Hot Springs next. Just called and booked a room at Motel 6 in Hot Springs on 6/11.

I should be good to go now. Put me down as in.

Cool! Are those double rooms? I know Sal (Hotcarcus) is a last minute add but will need a room.

We're at 6 people now; I have 2 rooms booked for the nights and if yours is a double room that's perfect to split the hotel costs.

The loop around Rushmore is a good day ride. We went thru in late April and there was one day of snow and it was still pretty chilly. June would be better in terms of weather.
Thanks for posting this ride. It looks way fun and look forward to checking it!
