Red face RMNP full moon ride - Friday night, 7/31/15

It's been too long since the last full moon ride up Trail Ridge Road, so here we go. There's really only 2 opportunities this summer...Friday 7/31 and Saturday 8/29. We will use 8/29 as a backup date, if the weather screws us out of the 31st. This ride is for Friday, July 31, 2015.

The meet up spot will be at the Diamond Shamrock in Lyons (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Co...cae315edf2e035).

The meet up time will be 8:00pm, with a departure time around 8:30pm, which should put us at the NE entrance to RMNP (on Hwy 34) around 9:00pm. This would put us at the Alpine Visitor Center between 10 and 11...nice and dark, with the moon high in the sky. No matter what, it's going to be a late night...depending on how far you live from Estes Park, it will be a VERY late night. But if the sky is clear, it's totally worth it. We can always discuss options for an earlier start time, if that seems too late.

The park is open 24/7 and the cost for motorcycles is $10 per person (if you're 2-up, you're paying $20...sucks, I know), but in the past we have gotten in without having to pay, due to the late hour.

Just a reminder, being a "full moon" ride, the weather needs to be pretty good to make it worthwhile. That being said, if the weather forecast starts to look bad as the date draws near, I will likely cancel the ride and try again at the end of August.

Looks like there is enough interest, so it's officially on...weather permitting.

I would be interested in July one. I'd vote for earlier departure since the moon rise at 830pm.

I'll keep an eye on date changes given I work nights so the 1st would be best.

Nevermind. I'm out. Watch out for deers!

Also, an annual pass is $40 -- and if you both sign the back you can get 2 motorcycles in at a time on 1 pass. But I'd be willing to bet the front entrance isn't even manned at this time of night.

I don't know how much things have changed in the last 4 years. The last time I did this ride, there was a DUI checkpoint at the gates and no charge for admission.

    Agreed.

When I did the ride in '12, there was no charge because we entered the park later on in the evening.

Interested, definitely gonna have to go at a much slower pace for deer/wildlife (enough of us carry that we can at least scare something large). Also should just trust the front motos with brights so we don't night blind everyone in front of us.

If this ride requires that somebody brings a gun, I'm probably out.

I think a lot of people carry, much like a fire extinguisher it isn't "required" until one needs it, night time in a wildlife area without a cage, can't hurt to be prepared.

Exactly....this is definitely NOT a knee dragger/ass hauling kind of ride. It's all about the unique experience. We will go over all of this sort of stuff at the meet up, too.

As for no charge on a late entry, I can't verify that, so I would plan on paying and just be happy if you don't have to.

Well I'm sure as fuck not going to be the only unarmed one there! Is open carry allowed on a motorcycle in CO?

Well, if you're packing then so am I! Don't want to be the guy who brings a knife to a gun fight!

But yes, it's legal in CO to open carry on a MC.

I am in. Thinking of riding the cruiser for this one. Just curious if it's going to be all sportbikes or not. I am fine either way.
