    2013 NHTSA Stats for Motorcyclists

    http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/812148.pdf

Really interesting look at the numbers that affect us all.

Key take-aways: Riders tend to speed more, have more citations, more license revocations, and more alcohol related injuries and fatalities then the other demographics (cars, light trucks, large trucks) Also, a higher percentage of riders are unlicensed than those groups.

Drinking and riding make up about 35% of the fatalities in 2013. NHTSA estimates that helmets saved the lives of 1,630 motorcyclists in 2013. If all motorcyclists had worn helmets, an additional 715 lives could have been saved. Helmets are estimated to be 37-percent effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle riders and 41 percent for motorcycle passengers. In other words, for every 100 motorcycle riders killed in crashes while not wearing helmets, 37 of them could have been saved had all 100 worn helmets.
Fatalities are about 50% higher without a helmet it looks like.

Stay safe, the choices we make when we ride affect use more than other groups.
