    30 Years of the GSXR

Even if you wouldn’t describe yourself as a huge Suzuki GSX-R fan, you’re going to love this video. Produced by the Bonnier Motorcycle Group, it’s an in-depth look at the Suzuki GSX-R, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Our film production crew traveled to Suzuki Headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan, where they had the wonderful opportunity to meet with and interview many of the key personnel who helped shaped the bike into the legend it has become. These are a bunch of dedicated engineers who are crazy about racing, and one of them (Tateshi Shimizu) was kind enough to remember our 1985 test in Laredo, Texas, in which a pair of stock GSX-R750s ridden by eight CW staffers (David Edwards, Larry Little, Ron Griewe, Camron Bussard, Doug Toland, Steve Thompson, Ron Lawson, and story author Paul Dean) set numerous world speed and endurance records. This feat was was documented in our December 1985 cover story, and Paul still shares stories about the pesky javelinas.

There's no better way to celebrate a 30th anniversary machine than giving it a massive, new from the ground up, overhaul that will make it competitive once again.

Or we can just paint it different. Disgust.

I'm looking forward to their next update, I hope they put a lot into it much like Yamaha did with their R1. Not sure why Suzuki and Honda adamantly refuse to update their supersport machines.

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.

Suzuki used to be such a great powerhouse and they were truly performance inspired. Now that they're back with the big dogs they need to get back to their glory days and build a proper sport bike again
