    Anyone monitor radiation ever?

So my neighbor at Mo-Door manufactures Geiger Counters and I picked one up for my prep stash (and my parents live near an area that has tested high for radiation in the past and my son loves this stuff).

    Anyone else own a counter?

Mazur Instraments makes a super solid product. I bought their cheaper model but they have a few options.

You would be surprised as to what kinds of radiation are around you on a daily basis....

The only radiation I'm worried about is Radon. Mitigation is expensive!

No, but thank you for making me sufficiently paranoid!

Go to the camping department and put it up to some of the lantern mantles. The thing goes berserk!

I would love to ck and see if I have radon at my place. There's a fan for it but it was set up for a grow so I'm thinking it was just for that.

No, I don't monitor it, but I got this mason jar from a guy who plays with a huge accelerator:

It's black because the glass has been "burned/carbonized" on a molecular level by a really big Van de Graff. Apparently it's perfectly safe to drink out of, as the glass doesn't hold radiation.

I don't believe that's 100% true. Pretty much anything can become "active" if exposed to high-rad levels. The Coleman mantles have a little thorium in them to make them brighter. My PhD friend has some in his lab to use to make sure the counters are working properly.
