    Black Hills for Memorial day

Wondering whos made the trip during Memorial day and if its worth it? My guess is that Sturgis, Rapid City, Mt Rushmore etc all flex in traffic during the holiday.

Any info would be great! Thanks.

I lived at the south end of the Black Hills for 8 months. The worst traffic up there wouldn't even register as congestion in Denver. Even Sturgis traffic during the rally was basically no worse that driving through the tech center at rush hour.

The population of South Dakota is only 200k higher than Denver. Not the entire metro area, just Denver. Until you spend time there it is hard to comprehend just how sparse the population is and how wide open everything is up there.

There are so many twisty highways through the Black Hills it is easy to find a highway or back road that is all yours. Traffic will pick up around the big attractions but nothing that will hold you up for more than a few minutes if that long.

Not lived there but bun been there a few times. I would highly suggest against making a bike trip during a summer holiday unless you adjust your expectations. Those roads are tight and offer few passing areas. Unless your definition of fun is passing hundreds rvs and minivans.

Yeah, sitting behind campers with limited space to pass (especially with a group) doesnt sound that fun.

I suppose anywhere you ride that weekend you risk the same situation.

Anyone have a favorite Memorial Day motorcycle vacation other than the Black Hills?

EZ ~ The long back way to Sedona, AZ Try to hit Dove Creek, CO(UT?) google it. You will see the good road into dove creek. Then meander your way to Sedona. It will be HOT south of Flagstaff though.

I'm going to the Black Hills July 1-10. Part family vacation, part moto adventure. Not sure what Memorial day will look like but I imagine similar but less traffic.

Is there still snow around that late in the year? Maybe I'll join you... Oh, and I have a truck and 2 bike trailer, will travel.

As of right now I'm planning on a weekend trip to the Devil's Spine in AZ. Trailer the bikes down Friday 4-29, come home that Monday. Best thing and maybe worst thing about the spine is you pretty much have canyon to yourself.
