I've never seen one of these in person....

...so, I thought it would be a good excuse to go buy one. What a machine!!!

I admit it's one of the ugliest bikes out there, but I'm hard-core Yamaha and the electronics on this are beyond belief. For example - 10,000 rpm full throttle launch control. I think I need to go to Bandimere!!

The CSC is the only on-line community I belong to, therefore, the only place I have to brag! It was kind of stupid getting the M version being as I don't race anymore, shit, I don't even do tracks days anymore. It'll sure look cool cruisin' Federal Ave., though. Gonna see if I can get someone in a SmartCar to follow me around with a rear stand. This thing just doesn't look right leaning on the kick stand!

I'm still not a fan of the styling, but I'm sure it's fun to ride. Congrats.

Aside from those headlights, I actually love the bike! Engine might be a bit anemic compared to the exotics, but it sounds absolutely wicked with that crank.

I wish my bike launched at 10, mine uses 9,000, but at this altitude it's a bit low and bogs.

Nice choice man, and I don't blame you at all for your choice. If I could afford a track bike, it'd be a 600. Plenty of guys buy reasonable track toys, and keep their street bikes pimped out. I bought forged rims, Brembo hardware, carbon fiber bodywork, etc, but all for the street!

From having his Teutonic world-eater get ran through by a race-tricked 250, to having the audacity of saying an R1M's engine is "anemic". Yeah. Exactly what I was thinking.

The more I look at the pictures, the more I really like it. The headlights are what I really liked from the beginning.

...and... I think 200 h.p. will be plenty for tooling around the hills...

Nice. I like the faceted look of the bike.

To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

While it isn't the best looking bike, I don't think it is that bad, esp considering the current trend. Def think it gets better the more you look at it.

Nice bike. I've liked the R1M ever since it first appeared, it kind of reminds me of the M1.

The July issue of Cycle World has an interesting comparison article between the R1M and R1S. On the dyno CW got about 165 hp at the rear wheel out of the R1M.

    Nice! Congrats!!

That's what Ryan Burke is shattering track records on in the MRA right now, battling to keep the #1 plate!

Yamaha's design changes have always been received with criticism, it seems... and while I may not have always loved their design changes, I don't think I've ever criticized them, because I knew I would eventually love it (being a Yamaha lover, myself).

If you like it, that's what counts! I've said it before, you really can't go wrong with any of the mid-top shelf superbikes. Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Kawi, and Yamaha are all making killer supersports. I suggest people buy the one that feels best and looks best. Both of those categories are almost completely subjective. Except for the Ducati, it's by and far the best looking bike ever. But it's pure hell to street ride on.

As for the power, the R1 is still down 10-20whp on the other advertised 200hp bikes, but it doesn't much matter. My bike can't keep the front wheel down until 120mph anyway, and the R1 is certainly none slower on a track.

Re: I've never seen one of these in person....

Spent a few days in Buena Vista. Was supposed to be a dirt bike trip, but bought this R1M, so it became a street bike trip. The worst road had to be coming down from Independence Pass into Aspen. Lots of bumps!! This semi-active suspension is amazing!! It never feels out-of-sorts. I could go on forever!

I hate to spend the money, but I'm gonna have to do some track days, now. Sure do miss the $45 all day track time!
