    Burning Man

    Anyone gone? Anyone going?

Planning a trip of large portions this year. Not riding in but will probably take a motorcycle of sorts in and we planning on building a mutant vehicle as well.

    Any info would be great!

    Re: Burning Man

pretty sure they don't allow motorized vehicles at burning man. that's why everyone has bicycles.

if you are going to go you need to buy your tickets now... we'll get into the lottery and hope you get your tickets. also you will need to take a desert survival class before being allowed to go. think it's on their website.

as for your stay there money means nothing. everything works off of barter. rent a car to go as the dust will trash your vehicle. lots of people like to rent those weekend campers to go. the winds can get brutal and that makes tent camping pretty rough.

also water. lots and lots and lots of water. you will be doing a lot day and night and you would be surprised how quick that place dries you out.

their website has tons of info. I've been debating it for years and have yet to go.

    All good points

Yeah, we are looking for clarification on what they define as a vehicle. Google "Mutant vehicle Burning Man".

I was thinking a battery powered golf cart might be a good platform.

They allow all sorts of vehicles there. You have to apply to have them but if they say yes, then you are in with whatever monstrosity you build.

    Re: Burning Man

With a city of tens of thousands of people, and the problems inherent in human-vehicle interaction (over the years we have seen severe injuries and even death due to vehicle-related accidents), it is critical that Burning Man remain primarily a city for pedestrians and bicyclists. The only vehicles that may be driven at Burning Man are staff and service vehicles, vehicles for people with a physical disability, and Mutant Vehicles.

that's from their website. so you will have to decorate that golf cart like never before.

A Mutant Vehicle is a unique, motorized creation that shows little or no resemblance to their original form, or to any standard street vehicle. Mutant Vehicles are radically, stunningly, (usually) permanently, and safely modified from their base vehicle. Sometimes the whole vehicle is made from scratch.

Mutant Vehicles may include such non-standard motorized forms such as furniture, other non-street vehicles such as a boat or train, animals, or just about anything imaginable. For safety reasons, they must not mimic any type of emergency service or law enforcement vehicle.

Vehicles merely stripped to the frame and engine, and vehicles with minimal changes or temporary decorations are not considered Mutant Vehicles.

You don't have to go out into the desert to realize we're all ONE, ya know...

But looks like a fun time! Wish I had gotten to do this when I was younger. Sending "good vibes" to you

    Re: Burning Man

You two should check out Zozobra in Santa Fe NM; sort of similar. It is a 304 year annual event where they burn a 50 foot puppet (to burn away gloom). it happens every Friday before Labor Day and a huge festival (fiesta) is held in the town with food, music, events etc.

Here is more on it if interested: https://burnzozobra.com/all-about-zozobra/

    Re: Burning Man

I lost track of this thread for a minute!

Tickets have been purchased, we are a go!

Me and a few buddies try and do something off the ultimate bucket list every year. I guess the wives just understand that its something we have been doing for years now.

Not sure yet about the mutant vehicle or not....
