Re: 2018 Canyon Conditions (keep updating)

Does anyone know if 151 (Little Bear Creek Rd) between Squaw Pass 103 and I-70 Idaho Springs is paved or not? Mapping out a route and Google no show that section... plan to head up there in a couple weeks to check some other roads out as well for a future ride loop with couple of friends from TX... thanks.

    It is not paved.
Not sure what you mean about Google not showing it, all you have to do is zoom in on satellite view and you can clearly see that it's dirt. Even when street view isn't available, you can usually zoom in close enough to see if it's dirt or paved.

Re: 2018 Canyon Conditions (keep updating)

yeah I guess I didn't zoom in enough... on mine satellite view max zoom still doesn't clearly show dirt or not... a lot of these narrow backroads have no paint markings so they look kinda the same..

I did mean not showing on street view (but even a lot of those have dates back to 2008 so you never know)

Adjusted my planned route... I will still be headed up that way in a couple weeks to scout around some anyhows...

https://goo.gl/maps/ptmmqW6LVHn is our planned little day ride for when those flatlanders come up...

That's quite the loop. I'm guessing you saw that Grapevine isn't technically paved, but it is pretty smooth and not a problem for any street bike.
FYI, Kerr Gulch is also a nice little road to get from Bear Creek to Squaw without having to deal with Evergreen.

Re: 2018 Canyon Conditions (keep updating)

thanks, I will check those out as well when I head up... I may wander farther up 119 towards 7 just because when I am exploring.

My normal day rides end up 250+/- miles anyhows... they are just coming up for a weekend to get away from TX so I am making it more "interesting" for the flatlanders... LOL!

Took me a minute to find Kerr Gulch... coming from the S I usually run Witter up to Squaw; Grapevine looked paved in street view so thanks for that!

I do Witter quite a bit as well, but you do miss some of the more technical curves of Squaw going that way.

I've been looking at that area on the maps, and see a bunch of interesting roads to go check out... too bad it is better than an hour from me but is still worth a day trip to go check out and annoy the neighbors... LOL!

Kerr Gulch is a nice little diversion from the usual Evergreen route. Another nice twisty ride from Evergreen is Little Cub/Stanley/High Drive although I like to ride it in reverse from the Turkey Creek end for nicer views of Mt Evans.

The new pavement up Golden Gate Canyon is in good order. I never trust new pavement 100% but it's fairly clean of gravel. There is new chip seal on the CCP for about 3 miles from the Central City side.

Rain made a mess of the lower 6-8 miles of Golden Gate. They have all the rocks cleaned up but the pavement is still really dirty.

Giant pedal pusher race on Sunday☹️ This will affect Golden Gate, Coal Creek, Hwy 119 and Lookout Mountain. I think this might be the one where they close sections of the roads for 30-45 min at a time.https://www.granfondonationalseries....den-gran-fondo

They have started road construction on 5 miles of hwy 119 heading north from the top of Golden Gate. Fresh tar snakes, still slippery. They will be chip sealing next.
