The entry to Ned on 7 for about 10 miles is gravel and stripped road. I slid all the way across my lane at one point. Pretty sketch.

They must have just started that cause when I went up last Saturday there was zero construction on that area. I went all the way to the cross over where you can head to Estes or Lyons and then headed back to Ned

I really don't know why Boulder county has to chip seal p2p every couple of years, it wasn't that harsh of a winter to pothole that stretch.

They have all this oil all over the goddamn road too. There ARE signs that say "Fresh oil on the road" and "Loose gravel" but it was still dangerous.

A lot of 2 inch size rocks all over Hwy 119 at appox. mm17. Middle of a corner, mainly the southbound lane.

Good news: Approximately 8-9 miles of GGC has new pavement, both lanes.
Bad news: Since they haven't painted the lines yet, I saw multiple cars go at least 3 feet into the oncoming lane around corners. Be very careful until they get some lines painted.

Finally sampled the new golden gate pavement - very nice! Guanella clean. Very dirty around Pine in middle of lanes. Few leos too. Deckers mostly clean.

Be careful on P2P, there was a guy on Facebook threatening to swerve at/hit riders that passed on a double yellow.

Yeah saw that on the FB page, sad world we live in. Tempted to sell the R1 and just get a dedicated track bike, fucking morons out there. Hope the authorities do something about this, unacceptable to threaten people this way and think it’s okay.

Re: 2018 Canyon Conditions (keep updating)

I've been looking at other roads and such; does anyone know if 83 S Elk Creek Rd from 285 back to 126 is paved? Google maps has 2012 images for that section... and street view stops half way down.
Next time on I am headed out that way for more 'sploring... I "found" Foxton Rd and SW Platte river rd last time and enjoyed them to the fullest... dang hooligans!

Re: 2018 Canyon Conditions (keep updating)

It is a really cool road going up from Pine, but it does have some dirt sections. Shouldn't be a problem for a street bike if you don't mind the occasional easy dirt road. Even if you decide not to try the bike, it's worth taking the car just to see it...some pretty impressive rock formations.
I've been running Foxton for years. It's way better than dealing with all the traffic on 126.

Re: 2018 Canyon Conditions (keep updating)

thanks DriverDave... I just happened to catch a side road out of the corner of my eye in Buffalo and spun a u-turn to check it out.. ended up on Foxton. I like tight knarley twisties.. more technical the better.
Next time home I will head up there again to try some "new to me" roads.

Have you ever done Conifer Mtn?...or Brook Forest/Shadow Mtn...or Upper Bear Creek/Witter Gulch, etc... I'm all about the lesser known gems. In fact I just hit Tarryall today....resplendent as usual.

The road the golf course is on, just up from the dam on Evergreen Lake. Beautiful houses on Upper Bear Creek, which is basically a long dead end. Witter Gulch splits off halfway up and comes out on Squaw Pass...used to be dirt, but it got paved several years ago. Lots of steep switchbacks, but a nice road.

They have paved a lot of side roads in the Evergreen area, I can put around a 100 miles on my bike without getting more then 20 miles from Evergreen. I'm all about finding back roads to play on.

oh okay yeah I’ve been up that way and did ride that road before when it was dirt haha, that was fun going up gonna have to go that way again since it’s been paved, much rather go that way than have to deal with the tard cyclists on the first section of squaw.
