    US-191 in Arizona

If you have never been, add it to your bucket list. Awesome road. Last of four parts...

94 miles between Clifton and Alpine. Speed limits (not the recommended curve, but the actual posted limit) range from 15 to 40. Majority is 20-25 posted. Mixed pavement conditions, lots of elevation changes, amazing views. Lower section runs thru the huge open pit Morenci copper mine.. we didn't stop and snap some pics but we should have. No services other than a couple small pull outs with forest service restrooms.

I have this ancient Rand McNally that I hi-lite "secret" moto roads. It's shown as Hwy 666 on this map. Reckon they decided to change it to something a bit less intimidating years ago.

My step-brother works for Arizona DOT. He said one of the reasons they changed the highway number was because people were stealing the Highway 666 signs as fast as they could put them up.

I can believe that, just like in eastern Colorado on I70 mile marker 420 got moved 52.8 feet and became mile marker 419.99

I now realize there are some good roads a little farther to the west... next time down I plan to go check those out as well.

Ah yes, the Devil's Spine - love that road - several of us have ridden it, a couple of times (search for old threads on the Spine). First time, we rode all the way there from Denver - (and got a little lost on the way back, lol). The second time we trailered our bikes there... Despite the long stretches of highway, I think I prefer riding there, just so I can put more miles on the R1.

    Re: US-191 in Arizona

Well my next trip is pushed back til May 2019. Think I will just load up and head that way and plan on 5-6 days. There are some roads in AZ I want to check out and prob spend a few hours at the Grand Canyon.
Haven't been over to Unaweep, 550 or Black Canyon in a couple years so big loop planning.
Looks like 5 days giving 1/2 a day to go up and see the GC. Longest day is the 1st one down to Grants, 479 from my house.
