First Dirty South post in 5(ish) years...

    Yikes.

    I read this article;
Did Facebook Kill The Car Forum? - Hagerty Media

I remembered the forums I used to love, including this one. But I don't own a single bike in my signature and haven't for a very long time. I don't live in the Springs anymore and haven't for 15 years. But I miss it. I still have the numbers of at least 3 people I met here back in the day in my phone, and even still met up with 2 of them.

I don't know if Facebook can take all the blame. We move, we grow older, our focuses and interests change. That's not always bad, but sometimes you get a bit wistful thinking about what you left behind.

I made great friends here, rode across almost all of Colorado and had an amazing time doing it. Hell, a small group of us even road through Mexico in 2007. I know this place made me a better rider. Just through experience alone, Sunday mornings before riding Captain Jacks as far as we could get in the snow, Firecracker 500s, Pizza nights, meeting up to watch Moto GP. Rolling up to a parking lot filled with sportbikes, meeting someone new, hearing about a road that you now needed to run, sharing your favorite pass with someone else. All those weekends running down to PMS to watch the MRA races and eventually getting on track myself. The momories are flooding back just staring at the familiar font of this board.

Great times. The T-Shirt I got from here finally faded away 9 years ago, I am on 4 wheels a lot more than 2 these days. And my 2 wheels are definitely more comfy than they were in 2007.

But I see the dead sections and a lot of virtual tumbleweeds. It's like going home and visiting your favorite bar, everything changes. I wanted to just stop by and see the old place. It might be on the decline. But It's still here, and that's something. I hope the folks on here are still getting together and bonding the way we did when I had the website open 24/7.

A message board just hits different. Our social media feed is geared to find folks that are as similar as possible, but the folks I met here were different than me. Our common agreement was an enjoyment of motorcycles and riding. I was socially richer when I spent time here that I am when I default to the socials.

If you read this, thanks. Good luck.

    Shiney side up.
GSXRScott made me follow him into that corner,...down that hill...there was the time up that washout...crankcase alley...man I gotta stop following him.

I hear that, Forums have been in decline for a long time now. I would venture to say that Facebook, and social media in general killed the concept of the forums. Now, everyone can DM each other or form smaller groups. This forum used to be huge, mountain rides, track days, race days, etc. The different locations/areas talking smack to the others LOL! How the dirty south got our name.

I'm still on two wheels. I just purchased a 2007 Honda CBR1000RR Repsol. Loved those bikes when they came out all those years ago, and now happened to find one locally. I'm mainly just using it for commuting to work and will do the occasional mountain ride. But gone are my days going to the track. My last sportbike was my 03 GSX-R1000 that I mainly used for track days. Sold it in 2017, then went a few years with nothing. Then ended up with a Honda Shadow 1100 cruiser, which my dad bought and then I jumped to a Honda VTX1300. Sold it last year, as the cruiser thing just wasn't scratching that itch. The itch that comes from not being on a sportbike. As soon as I bought my new CBR, on the way home on my favorite back road here in the Springs, I opened it up and suddenly I was home. That instant rush of acceleration, the feeling of being pushed back in the seat and the scenery starting to go by in a blur, just made it all feel so good.

I'm 44 now, not the young 24 old when I joined this site. I've been on here for 20 years!! Two decades on this same forum. Keeping it alive in some way or form. I lost my log in credentials awhile back as was incommunicado for a bit.

I mainly keep up with racing, MotoGP, WSBK, MotoAmerica and Formula 1.

You're right, we grow, we move and some just stop riding altogether. For me, being on two wheels is in my DNA. It's always there no matter when I go.

I preferred the forums as opposed to social media. In a forum you could plan your thoughts and articulate whatever it is you were in engaging in. On social media it's quick and often not even seen. I looked forward to coming home from work to see what comments were made, what threads were started and what heated debates I was in and had to respond too

Honestly, when I joined way back in 2004, I still had my Nokia brick phone. That's how freaking old this place is!! I've only kept in touch with one from this board, outside of the forum through social media. But remember many, many people from rides and track days long since gone by.

    Good memories.....

The forums are honestly missed dearly, I absolutely dread social media to be honest with you but unfortunately it took over completely. I'm only 37 and joined here just out of high school pretty much although lurked for a few years prior as I was working into getting my first motorcycle for my graduation present. Met some of the greatest people I've known and thankfully still am in touch with through this here forum, have made some amazing memories that will forever be cherished through the many rides and events through the years and even though I'm not in CO anymore, I still love this place and do touch base with said people whenever I do go back few times a year to visit and even stop at the race track as well and shoot the shit with the MRA peeps. This spot may not get the love it once got but still a hidden gem in my book. It's just BK and I rambling about racing these days mainly and just a shit ton of lurkers

Yeah pretty much, just shooting the shit about racing. Beats all the social media drama I see any time of the week.
