Yikes.
I read this article;
Did Facebook Kill The Car Forum? - Hagerty Media
I remembered the forums I used to love, including this one. But I don't own a single bike in my signature and haven't for a very long time. I don't live in the Springs anymore and haven't for 15 years. But I miss it. I still have the numbers of at least 3 people I met here back in the day in my phone, and even still met up with 2 of them.
I don't know if Facebook can take all the blame. We move, we grow older, our focuses and interests change. That's not always bad, but sometimes you get a bit wistful thinking about what you left behind.
I made great friends here, rode across almost all of Colorado and had an amazing time doing it. Hell, a small group of us even road through Mexico in 2007. I know this place made me a better rider. Just through experience alone, Sunday mornings before riding Captain Jacks as far as we could get in the snow, Firecracker 500s, Pizza nights, meeting up to watch Moto GP. Rolling up to a parking lot filled with sportbikes, meeting someone new, hearing about a road that you now needed to run, sharing your favorite pass with someone else. All those weekends running down to PMS to watch the MRA races and eventually getting on track myself. The momories are flooding back just staring at the familiar font of this board.
Great times. The T-Shirt I got from here finally faded away 9 years ago, I am on 4 wheels a lot more than 2 these days. And my 2 wheels are definitely more comfy than they were in 2007.
But I see the dead sections and a lot of virtual tumbleweeds. It's like going home and visiting your favorite bar, everything changes. I wanted to just stop by and see the old place. It might be on the decline. But It's still here, and that's something. I hope the folks on here are still getting together and bonding the way we did when I had the website open 24/7.
A message board just hits different. Our social media feed is geared to find folks that are as similar as possible, but the folks I met here were different than me. Our common agreement was an enjoyment of motorcycles and riding. I was socially richer when I spent time here that I am when I default to the socials.
If you read this, thanks. Good luck.
Shiney side up.
