    Somewhere to get tank cleaned?

My project kawi has rust inside the tank and a little bit on the surface. The structure is solid as far as i can tell. Is there somewhere the could strip it down to bare metal and prime/seal it. It has one other problem common to these bikes that a hold down tab seeps gas and needs brazed/welded. I'm located in boulder so closer is better.

    John,

Give the guys at Morse Racing Products a call - I'm not 100% sure that they can clean it for you, but they do tank repair and paint, so I'm sure they have som expertise in this area.

I recently asked the Rocky Mountain Cycle Plaza service department about rust in a tank. They said that once there is rust , the metal plating has been pierced and that the only real solution would be to have it replated, probably at a radiator shop.

    +1 on TK

And there is some other stuff that you put in afterwards that puts a coating on the inside of the tank so it doesn't start rusting again.

Found some stuff at performance tonight, gonna give it a shot first. Hopefully i can clear that up and the fuel tap that dumped 3 gallons of gas onto the ground and into the crankcase

It’s called Kreem and is a two-part process. The acid bath is not bad but the sealant will turn your garage into a toxic waste dump. It’s a pain but works if done correctly.
