I remember when the motorcycle craze for power and speed started testing the waters in the early 80's.......Honda introduced the V45 and the V65. Then they thought they had the market wrapped with the CBX, the massive in-line 6 shoe horned sideways in the chasis......It looked like a 57 caddy with S**t hangin out all over.....

I had a '79 CBX.
However, the HP wars started with the Kawai Z1r

That Z1R was the first bike that I ever "had to have". Couldn't afford it, got it anyway. Smallest gas tank ever...Originally Posted by Nick_Ninja";p="274936

Not counting mini-bikes and a Honda c50 motorcycle when I was delivering the afternoon newspaper in the 60's at 11 yrs old (Indiana), the first bike would be a brand new '83 Honda V45 Sabre. My wife and I took it all over Michigan before four kids came along. Re-entry rider in '98.

I learned to ride a Binelli(sp) 65 in 1965, I was 8 years old.
My first bike was a Ducati 750, in 1976. Sold it after a year, figuring I was going to run into trouble on it. Off bikes for the most part until last year, when I figured commuting to work and canyon riding would be a good way to go.

Started riding in '72. Got my first bike in '76. It was a 74 Yamaha TY80 trials bike (I was 7). My dad's still got a '79 CBX with Kirker exhaust and Koni shocks. The thing is fast as all hell in a straight line!! Though I think his '84 RZ350 is faster in the straight line and certainly faster (and a lot more fun ) in the twisties.

Currently bikeless, but will be BMW shopping again come springtime.
After the obligatory Briggs & Stratton mini-bikes in '67 or so the family got a CT70 honda in '70.
Still can almost make out the waffle pattern burns on my leg.
First bike I owned myself was a 125 Suzuki dirtbike in '74 that I road on the street as much as the dirt.
(Gotta love a chainsaw with wheels. )
Graduated to a '72 Yamadog R5 350 in '78 that I still have and has been an organ donor to this '74 RD350 cafe project.

First fourstroke was a Kawi Z900 I traded a friends wrecked trash-can triple and a couple hundred bucks for in the early '80's. Scary fast back in the day. Didn't have that too long...think I traded it for a chunk of hash and a Ford Pinto or something.

Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls would scarcely get your feet wet.
Had to sell my '79 Honda CBX to pay 'The Man' for the 2.2 elbow of Peruvian Marching Powder. Not a good deal and never ever ever will it happen again. God I miss that bike.

First street bike was a 1981 Honda 750F...I could barely hold it up.

Holy cr@p! That's my bike. '81 CB-750F in the same color. I started riding a Honda CB-100 on the street with a license in 1971. Got a Honda 350 a little later. Then the 750 in '81. Didn't ride for 20 years then got a spankin' '06 BMW K1200S.Originally Posted by FZRguy
The funny thing is I thought the '81 Honda 750 was a hot bike. Something like 70 HP? The BMW has 167.
