Why are you here? This is old guys reminiscing about bikes that are older than you are. Isn't there a YD&FC forum you could whore up?Originally Posted by Fly boy

Currently bikeless, but will be BMW shopping again come springtime.
I remember that bike
My roommate had a Z1R back in the day. Shame, he totaled it.

For some reason I think it is Kathi Yeager.
I'm with Jeff on the RZ350 but below was my pre-pavement addiction. As a pre-teen all that chrome. It was the first bling bike and it was all stock.

Now that’s a riser bar! My first ride was a 1973 YZ125.

Well maybe I'll be screwed for group rides, but here's my primary (read first and only) motorcycle!
Woohoo!
Dayum she looks sweet! Go HONDA!!!

Thanks man...that isn't a photo of mine, but mine is in just as good a shape, with the red striping instead of all blue. It'll likely be a family heirloom, as I have two younger cousins who will need their first bike in turn. Great for a sport-starter, I suppose!
What year is that? mid 80's?
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls would scarcely get your feet wet.
It's a 1984 Honda VF750F Interceptor, the second year they were made. Won the AMA that year and a couple other titles...blah blah. Cool in its day! I think he next year is when the first gixxers and ninjas started coming out. The rest is history I suppose.

I love the old Interceptors. I bought a 500 new in '84 and I still have it (it's the one in the background of the image below, torn apart for restoration over the winter). I have an '85 VF1000R and I just got an '07 Interceptor in the red/white/blue paint scheme.Originally Posted by relucas

Oh man am I jealous of your new '07 viffer! I went to Fay Myers on Saturday and drooled on their floor model a bit. It would be sooo perfect in my garage side by side with my '84. I even thought of getting my next bike painted that way I like it so much (and my next bike likely will not be a brand new one!)
Congrats on that. Ride nice?
Well, I got it the Saturday after Christmas and because of all this %$#% snow, I've only been able to put ~50 miles on it but it's a pretty sweet ride. It'll be good for a daily ride and longer trips. The VTEC is going to take some time to get used to though. To me, one of the great appeals of the Honda V-4s is that smooth, strong powerband all the way up to redline. The VTEC on this one kicks in at about 6500 RPM and I really notice it. I'm sure after a while I'll get used to it but it does annoy me a little at this point. It sounds sweet though. And when the VTEC kicks in, it goes from a growl to a snarl. When it comes to raw performance and canyon carving, my '05 750 Gixxer absolutely rocks but the Interceptors are better around town and for longer trips. And they sound so much nicer IMO. Never have really grooved on the pissed-off-bumblebee sound of the IL4s.Originally Posted by relucas

Hey you don't know anything about the top end oil mods available for old VF bikes do you? I'm real tempted to do one given all the noise mine makes when it's cold and/or at idle for awhile.
I haven't done one. The 500s didn't suffer from the same cam oiling problems as the 750s and 1000s. Jamie Daugherty is a great resource for these mods and all sorts of other things on these bikes like wheel and suspension mods:Originally Posted by relucas
