This is an aboslutely amazing area of New Mexico. Went there when I was a coupla months preggers with my first child and camped and had a blast! Check out the map for where it's located in comparison to other parts of NW New Mexico...http://www.google.com/maps?q=Red+Riv...i=map&ct=title
Love the roads that get you there, too. Amazing scenery and I said it back then, but I woulda loved to have taken that trip on a motorcycle...woohoo.

Are riders starting to go back to this rally? There had been a boycott of this event a couple years ago.
Here is older related article:

Yeah I was aware of that. It was packed last year. Most people have moved on.
I'd like to go. I always did think the roads to NM would be excellent on 2 wheels. How are sportbike riders received at that rally these days? Must be a lot more mellow anymore huh?

It is all good as long as you dont go in acting a fool. There is a mutual respect for all bikes. I had quite a few harley boys checking out the R1!
I am so very tempted, but I need more particulars...ie, cost of place to stay, etc. Tell me more, please.

I have that same respect for anyone riding 2 wheels so no worries there. I was unsure due to the Memorial Day thing and a lot of patriotic Vets paying respect and so on.
Really sounds like it would be a kick ass time. A hotel would sure be sweet though...if they're not all full already. Probably I'll have to call about real soon to find out.

Dammit, Pilot! Stop with the thread-jacking. Not that that wasn't funny as hell. Mayhaps I shall restate the question.
I need logistics: Place to stay; mileage would be helpful in calculating my costs; and other such nonsense.
I'm just a freakin worry-wart, what with kids and all...haven't left them for more than 24 hours, so it's hard to make a snap decision on this. Not like I've got no one to answer to, like some folks.
K, I'll shut up now.

Not sure of exact miles (I could easily look it up after work) but it can't be more than a 4 or 5 hour ride. I can make Albuquerque in 6 hours in my truck and RR is a decent ways north from there so...
My main worry would be my fuel range. I haven't really stretched it on my bike yet but it's only supposed to be in the realm of maybe 125 miles per tank, give or take. Probably a little better on highway miles but yeah...
G.
Bah! AAA...I can do a better job...sorta.
So, it's approximately 390 miles down there going by I-25. I don't wanna go that direction and don't know what the rest of the group has in mind on this one. So, it'll be about 3 tanks of gas, or $30 one-way. Lodging costs vary...of course. So, here's one that offers cabins of all sizes that begin at $65 per night for a one bed, one bath in a Motel to a cabin with 3-4 bedrooms and 2 baths at $230 per night.http://www.redrivernm.com/deerlodge/ Split that one about 6 ways? Don't know who is going, or if the idea of sharing a place is what is being considered, but splitting the bill makes it a tad cheaper at $40 per night.
Here's what I got so far:
Gas = $60 roundtrip and maybe another $30 for while you're there, total = $90.
Room = 3 night stay at $40 per night, total = $120.
Food = I don't eat too much or lavishly, at $20 per day for 4 days, total = $80
Grand total of $290...and that's conservative even for me.
hmmm...I dunno, but man that seems like a blast to me

This is where I am staying. It is about 30miles from red river. Cheap and still has rooms available. I work in Cimarron all the time and it is ok. Anything close or in red river is booked or $150 +++ a night . I would rather stay in Cimmaron and ride up. It gets wild at night in red river .I would rather do that at the hotel with a BBQ.

from Cimarron about an hour....but all canon carving!
Me and the wife are just staying 2 days at the hotel i posted....we are going to bring food and other stuff to grill each night. Just sweat the gas and room. I am also sure that I have a few buddies that are going and would split a room with you...that I can find out for you.
Looks like I'll be reserving a room tomorrow morning. I'm going to check around to see if there's a chance of accommodations closer to R.R. for a decent price, just in case. Never know, might get lucky. I'd like to party down in Red River at least one night or two which means no riding back 30 miles after beers. A cab would probably be expennnnnnsive for that distance too. It'll get figured out. This is going to be fun!

Got my room booked at Cimarron Canyon Inn. Still rooms available there but probably not for much longer.
Any body else thinking about going?
