Motorcycle Towing - CSC Track Day

Since the CSC July 29 track day will be my first track day, I want to make sure I have everything squared away ahead of time. As for towing needs, I was worried I was going to have to spend $150 on a trailer hitch, but then found out that my Explorer's bumper step is rated Class II with a max tow capability of 3,500lbs.

Has anyone used just the bumper step with a ball & shackle for towing? Have you had any problems? Or is it worth to go the extra mile and buy a frame mounted hitch?

If I can use my bumper step, I can get away with Uhaul's motorcycle trailer, which rents at $15 a day! Booya!

+1 - shouldn't be a problem at all as long as you have wiring in place for the lights.

BEWARE! I was told if you had an explorer you CANNOT rent a trailer from U-haul. I'd call and make sure if I were you.

^ Sad but true. If your vehicle says explorer on it anywhere they will not rent you a trailer. Sucks, but last year I couldn't use an "Explorer" Sport Track with the Uhaul trailer.

But I've also hauled bikes with the trailer mounted to a ball on the bumper with that truck, and other explorers. Works fine!

Dammit, you guys are right. Just called Uhaul - and due to the Firestone fiasco a few years ago (when they also got hit with lawsuits), they have a company wide ban against renting trailers to Explorers.

Anyone know another way I can get a hold of a trailer for a day?

Of course I'm right, I'm an Architect.

When the date gets closer just post up and see if anyone has an open spot in their trailer. I'm sure you'll find a couple people will have openings as the time gets near.

However you do drive a ford, and ride a yamaha, don't be suprised if you don't get any help.
