You can pick from the un-used numbers....
Well DK, the way I see it, you are going to need 3 things to be successful that you may not already have:
1) Talent
2) A good bike (try to avoid anything whose name starts with a "K" as they are unreliable - see KTM)
3) A bikini for Shortcake to wear around the pits.
3.a) Lots of other girls in bikinis for around your pit - sort of like Team Hunter, except without all the STDs.
Ha ha ha. Aren't I funny?
I would go 1 piece suit. The tire warmers are optional - no one used them back in my first Novice year (but then gasoline had just been invented) - but they give you all sorts of hero-confidence in turns 1,2,3. For spares, I would go with the stuff that gets bent and you need - clip ons, levers, foot controls, steering damper (if it is one of those side mounts). Nothing worse than breaking a brake lever on the last lap of practice and missing all the races. It turns out that I haven't said anything new, but I have enjoyed reading my own advice.

Thank you for your insight Adam, but could you elaborate on a couple items for me?
1) Talent - I have none, however I have lots of money, part of being fast is looking fast right? For now I will spend my money on gidgets and gadgets to impress people in the pits. Impressing them on the track will come later
2. Good Bike - I will peal off the "K" in "Kawasaki" and race a "Awasaki" then. Plus eliminating the "K" will save weight and surely make the bike faster right?
3. Bikini's - Is in necessary these match the color scheme of my race bike? Also do I need to supply umbrella's of the same fashion? What do bikini girls actually do besides hold my cold Monster drink?

And .02 more.....so now I'm up to .04.....
Tire warmers are great, but the real expense is the generator to run them. Can you spunge a generator off someone?

DK don't buy used! You know that Ash!
I need an umbrella girl like you Ashli. Afterall, from what I can tell Dave just rides? You actually: remove/install tire warmers, get Dave's gear ready, paint and mount his race plastic, install front tires even after Dave lost the spacer, fill the bike with gas, etc.

You seem to have plenty of cuties to hold your umbrella! But if you ever run out you can always rent some like the pros....

If you don't own a 2-piece do you think it would be better to just buy the one from the start?
How much are the entrance fees for race day? How much more does health insurance cost?

$130 for the first race, $20 for each after.
Some tracks have a surcharge of 10-20.
License, transponder are more. Then if you get into race tires, brakes and travel expenses it gets really fun!!!!
Health insurance doesn't change for racing (atleast through my employer) but life insurance did. It was definitely less than a 10% increase.

A 1pc suit is definately necessary... seen too many zippers break apart on a crash, get rash because of it. 2pc suits are nice for track days here and there can you race in them? of course, is it a smart idea? absolutely not.
As for tire warmers, do you need them? no... do you NEED them.. YES! If you want to be remotely competitive, if you want to not have a cold tire crash you aboslutely need them. Practice sessions are 12 mins long. At pueblo thats about 4-5 hot laps (MAX) before the flag is back out again. Without tire warmers, in colorado the first and last race of the year, figure on two GOOD laps to warm up your tires at least. So this leave you 2 maybe 3 laps (doubtful if your trying to warm up your tires the first 2 laps)... keep in mind most places that people go down that have cold tires is turn two... a left hander after the left side of the tire hasnt been touched since turn 7 and a long cold straight away = bad things.
So you are looking at 2 practice laps a session... so 4 practice laps before the race, and then a warm up lap and turn 1 in a pack w/ tires that arent up to temp. That does not equal smart racing.
We make enough stupid decisions racing! start off with a few smart ones and get some good gear and accessory stuff

Oh as far as costs... chalk up a G a weekend for racing. Between Tires, entry fees, food, gas, race gas, logging, etc... there you have it. On a budget your still looking at $500 avg a weekend AT LEAST.
For some reason everything in motorcycle racing just seems to cost that magic number of about $1000 bucks.
