Keyless fuel caps - Any experience?

Talking with Ralph and Matty at lunch last week I mention I had purchased an NR keyless fuel cap. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with these?

I have also looked at the 1/4 turn Lightech caps. Just not worth the $$ IMO

I have a Harris and like it. 1/4 turn spring loaded, super nice.

Stay away from Vortex, they're crap, hence why Shortcake has one.

I have heard nothing but bad things about the Vortex cap. Stayed away.

Since they are aluminum, any issues with thread wear or cross threading?

I've used Vortex on the racebike and my street bike for years w/o any problems...

I don't like Vortex because it seems to cross thread if your in a hurry. You have to keep a light coat of grease on the threads too. 1/4 is just a lot easier and the Harris is a nice unit.

I have both quick lock and screw in types and have never had any problem. The folks at TAW are great too!

Having tried both Vortex and Lightech... The LT's really do make a difference. The Vortex caps always seemed to jam up on me. I never cross threaded one, but it was never "smooth".

Lightech really is the shizzle! And you can get them locally for a fair bit less than the few online vendors. I know TK sold them which means Faster probably does now, likely others do too.

Re: Keyless fuel caps - Any experience?

So... I've often wondered why I even have a key fuel cap

Yeah, yeah, so it's an Aprilia and Colin Edwards on a track exploding can come to mind and a cap mostly adhering good enough to not let fuel escaping is in itself brilliant...

I mean, I guess I'm more worried about someone spending time around and getting close enough to steal the bike rather than worrying about syphoning the gas, sugaring it, or something else. The key is tedious in itself...

Is it some sort of prduction/DOT requirement for bikes alone?
