Well its good to hear that the kid is ok and I hope the father is too. I remember passing them earlier today when I was leaving Deckers.

He shoulda' stayed on 285 with that semi that was crossed up in the ditch.
Do you think the over-the-chest peace sign to you, had anything to do with his demise?
I bet he looked at you for about 1.5 seconds too long. oh shit. Kaboom.
You've caught a few of these accidents haven't you?

I have to agree with Samurai. I'm not saying you caused the accident, but you are a distraction to any rider that comes thru there. Additionally, this isn't the first time you have photographed someone crashing on this same corner. Maybe you shouldn't take anymore pictures at that particular corner as it is apparently causing inexperienced or inattentive riders to crash. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass where you take pix at, but someday someone may make it their business and confront you about it.
I say if someone can't make it around a corner while someone is taking a picture they should not be riding!

Glad you where there to lend assistance. I wouldn't blame these accidents on you because people need to be attentive while riding. Just a thought though, maybe you make a tripod caution sign and post it up while you're photographing. Put it a couple hundred yards up the road. People are too easily distracted... hence the whole target fixation thing.
Maybe a caution sign w/ a camera on it or something
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.
When I got hit by a car in a parking lot (on foot, no bike involved) I was asked "Are you okay?" and of course I said "yeah I'm fine" but really I wasn't. Since then I've always thought it's a bad idea to let someone who's just been in an accident make any important decisions, such as if emergency crews are called or not. When that happens to you, you're in shock and not thinking correctly. The guy with OnStar should have used it if he thought there was any chance it was necessary.

I am definitely not blaming Modette for the dudes lack luster riding and scattered attention! I like what he's doing up there for everyone and glad he was there to help - especially the poor kid.
Found another shot of him on the road warrior site - walkin the (center) line...

This must have happened after we went up and down Deckers.

It is a tricky corner for those less skilled. I passed the bike on its sidestand about an hour after the accident on the way to WP.
Many riding to Deckers from either direction are not well acquainted with the road. I've seen sportbike riders and cruising riders go down at this spot. I've seen the same on the second lefthander coming down from Pine Junction. While it is the rider's responsibility to remain focused and not let distractions take attention away from the road ahead, some are challenged by this. Given this, I would relocate the picture taking to another location. There's no need to add this to an already dangerous combination of road unfamiliarity, potentially limited skills, and a tricky decreasing radius curve.
FWIW, you snapped a couple pics of me and I never saw you at all. Too focused on late apexing and my health. From the pics, the radius looks fairly constant.
It is not your fault he crashed at all. I had to break my self a couple of years ago for "sight seeing" while riding the Putter Canyon. I almost bought it twice by not paying attention to the road.
His fault not yours.

He was right on, if not over, the center line just before he crashed. Its ashame that he did crash, but I agree, at least he had a jacket and the kid was fully covered.
Every time I go up into the mountains on a ride, I always wonder what is just around the corner waiting for me. But I never take my eyes off the road unless there is plenty of straight to enjoy the scenery. To be honest, I don't even know if I would notice a photographer on the side of the road, unless something looked really suspicious...
I may have noticed him off the side of the road but I have found my eyes tend to wonder around. Im trying hard to break that habit cause it makes it really hard to hold a good line.
