    Re: Gratefulness

It is no coincidence that this is exactly what I was experiencing as I garbed myself in snow gear and took my dog up into the Pike's Peak National Forest near Rampart Reservoir (Rainbow Gulch) for a morning hike as I usually do on the weekends.

I watched this dog run like the wind and play and roll in the snow with a simple happiness.... that I could only smile. During the entire hike all I could think of was "What are those things that are so simple that make me as happy as that unleashed dog?"
I mentally listed them to myself and could not come to an end....they are varied and not things that thrill everyone, but are MY things.

    1. We live in paradise....the mountains, the air, the trees. Being out in them thrills me. It's my therapy. No one who spends any time out in nature would doubt Intelligent design. It is no accident.
    2. The smell and taste of bacon..
    3. Laughing until you cry..uncontrollable laughing...the kind that makes you roll on the floor....the kind that reminds you of being in church at age 7 or 8 when you and your sibling would start laughing and couldn't stop so your mom had to take you out. (We found the song "Breathe on Me" in the hymnal and it was funny.)
    4. Rainy days (good for books, snuggling, and old movies.)
    5. Sunny days (good for sports events in the lawn chair.)
    6. The smell of Baby lotion.
    7. Family reunions with the outdoor smorgasbord spread under the North Carolina trees and the old people conversations and memories.....sometimes shelling purple butter beans and snap peas.
    7. Vacations in really quaint old hotels where the food is great and the conversation better.
    8. Paper Mother's Day cards from your former six year old that say that you are their world.
    9. Goo-goo ga-ga sounds
    10. Five year old humor
    11. Cats who rub their heads against yours.
    12. Dogs that rest their chins on your knee and are always game for whatever YOU want to do.
    13. The weariness of an all day ski day and how you sleep afterwards.
    14. Giving just the right gift (for a change).
    15. Watching your freshman at CU blossom with independence.
16....your son hits a 3-pointer or pitches a no hitter perfect game.
    17. or your son screws up royally and the Kiva juice you get for them makes everything OK.
    18. Alone time
    19. Family games
    20. a Christmas musical with candles
    21. the beach
    22. being around people a heck of a lot smarter than you

They just keep coming....and as Mtairlover shows..I am grateful for every little thing....
