Most people would have realized this after the first.....but that's ok, we understand......
My dad and uncles had Saabs dating to the early 60's. My uncle still swears by them, but thankfully my dad wised up. They were always too funky for me. The new Volvos look nice, but the Saabs.....well, it's still a face only a mutha could love....

I have my 66 Fairlane & a 2000 Durango. I all but have the Dodge paid off, but unless I can get a decent (bwahaha) trade in towards a Tacoma next year looks like I'll keep it as a back up vehicle. The classic car is the only shitbox I need....

Mantiacne. It's like acne, but worse. Scourge of the teenage years.... It's just ... manti, man!
To the guy who posted that in the first place - yeah keeping your car maintained goes a long way, but the fact is some are just fundamentally flawed when they leave the factory. Oil changes and air filters won't prevent a total piece of shit from breaking on you.
The Superduty's are actually decent, so when I needed a large truck the F-350 was adopted. I can't see owning much else any of the three companies have made though, unless you count something like a '67-68 Mustang -- however that isn't really in the same category.
Donna had a Saturn (GM product), it always had something going wrong with it. OTOH, the 4Runner we found to replace it is rock solid, as all of the other Toyota's I've owned have been.

True that.
I'd like to shoot the engineer that decided the starter should be wrapped by the exhaust pipes so that when it fails
you have to break off 12 manifold bolts that have been rusting for the last 10 years.
Another reason I love classic cars.
Open the hood and not only can you identify everything.
Hell, if you want you can sit in the engine compartment while you wrench on it.
LOL,
It took me a while to figure that one out. Medicine?....main acne?.....manicure?....
(Tipsys a good guy though. I blame the public school system.)

The real problem is not with the cars, it is with the people that own them. Just my $ .38
First rule of the internet: *bleep* you and everything you stand for. Second rule of the internet: FKZOR U AND RRYTHING U STND FR!
S'truth! We have totally unreasonable expectations:
A car should start and run every time I decide to drive it somewhere
A car should last more than 20000 miles without requiring any major repairs
A car should have a reasonable level or fit and finish, and not rattle like a handful of lugnuts in a coffee can every time I drive over a bump in the road
A car should not be subject to 11 safety recalls in the first year due to horrible engineering
A car should have more resale value after 2 years than used toilet paper
You see? We're TOTALLY unreasonable!
Meanwhile, I'll continue to drive my 270K mile Toyota MR2.....

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self- preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

5 Subarus, my '98 went to 221,000miles before I sold it. I still see it running around, and the highest-mileage Subie I ever saw at the dealership was an 01 Forester that a regional sales rep in TX had-- 417,000miles and still running on the original powertrain.
I've owned GM products in the past, some were utter shit-bombs that would detonate when you least needed them to, others were "acceptable".
At a quick count, I think I've owned 6, and one was such a POS that it got lemon-lawed (which was an ordeal in its own right), one was actually pretty good, the rest were somewhere between "unreliable money pit" and "marginally acceptable if you've never owned or driven an Japanese car and thus don't know how good 'cheap' cars actually can be."
Still, if you want a real POS, buy a BMW or Audi, especially used and out of their included service period. They're no more reliable than US cars, but they cost 5x as much to repair.
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

Toyota's aren't crap, but they are still overrated. Most models have that over-the-top cheap japanese plastic interior.
IMO, the majority of newer Japanese cars have lost their soul. Bland and boaring.
RIP Gene. You are a good friend that will be missed. I'm Gene Bazyl Bitch!!
The Best car I ever had was an 85 Volvo 244 that I added a turbo and IC.
Fun drifting monster..untill I seized the input shaft bearing in the trans.
It had 250,000 miles in it when I sold it. Recently I saw it on I-25 alive and still kicking

You must have owned one.
I tapped the head and replaced it with an aluminium one.
Jeep wanted like $80 (in the late 1980's) for the fancy neoprene/steel gasket to keep the original plastic valve cover from leaking.
Though one upside to a leaky v/c gasket, never had a seized bolt anywhere that the oil found it's way too.
(Which was most of the drive train.)
