Goalies do not make great coaches. On top of that he was never a Captain so, I say he has two things going against him.

Yeah, the best coaches usually turn out to be the guys who didn't have a lot of natural talent but who worked hard to master the intricacies of the game to compensate for the lack of natural talent. I haven't followed his coaching career since retiring. Has he done well there?

I agree Roy would not make a great NHL coach...he was a steller goalie.
I'd like to see Sakic come back in 3-5 years and coach (assuming he does retire).
