Never really rode a dirt bike before and have been looking on Craigs for reasonable priced (~$500) bikes. Any recommendations/words of wisdom? I don't mind buying something beat up and wrenching on it.
Thanks ahead of time.

I would say trails and eventually track when I get comfortable hoppin it. I just feel like it would be fun to hit up some local trails a la Rampart. Thats kinda why I was sticking to something 20-30 years old, besides the fact they are cheap. Don't know if I can drop $2000 on a newer dirt bike at the current juncture.
What kind of power should I be looking for? I'm ~250 lbs.

I'm your size and I did just fine about 10 years ago on a 125 or 250 two stroke dirt bike.

I am bigger than both of you put together... I just bought an 03 yz250, Plenty-o-powa!!!! I am looking to do more trails. Go get one!!!! Not sure about the price range but keep looking... I think it would be fun if a bunch of us get dirt bikes so we can get our off-road fixes in too...
Weren't you just bitching about being broke?
I would think you would want at least a 250 to hit the trails?
I took the prize money after whoopin your ass at Madison Square, son.
No, I'm pretty good about saving up a good amount of cash in the short term if I want/need to. Also, that why my price range was so low... I know how to wrench and don't mind doing major work myself.

I'm considering parting with my KLX300... if you're interested, pm me and we can talk.

I have been thinking about getting a dirt bike too. Only rode trails for the most part when I was younger on GT80 and a 79 YZ80 back in the day. Looks like fun and I want to get some air.
With my luck I'll end up stuck in a damn tree....But once I get back into some dough I want to get something...I can come into your back yard there and rip it up Zach
This is what I'm think......call the city, get the permit.

Look's like he's asking about 4x what I'm looking for, however I inquired about him taking payments on it. Haven't heard back.

Yeah... my bad. I misread Zach's post, not looking to get rid of it that bad...
If I can't find a renter for my townhouse, I may talk payments to you, but that's a ways off.

I wouldn't own a 125 for trail riding.
get atleast a 250 2 smoker stay away from 125's if you want a smaller engine ya can go with the 250 thumpers they have alot better torque
