    Camera/Computer help

I've got some pictures on my camera/SD card that I'm trying to get onto my computer but nothing is working. Until a few days ago I was able to just put my SD card in the slot on my rig and get the pictures off, now the card isn't showing up under "My Computer" and the program I use to get the images off the card isn't able to detect the card.

I tried hooking my camera directly in to my computer with a USB. The camera shows up under "My Computer" but it says there is nothing to download. I've tried using two different cards from two different manufacturers and neither work so I think it's an issue with my rig.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

^^can you view the pictures on the camera to confirm they are still there (on the card, not the on board memory for the camera if it has it)?
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

The driver for the card reader might have been corrupted. Can you plug the SD into a different computer and see if the card reader in that computer sees it? Or the card itself might have become corrupted and non-viewable by the computer.

Sounds like an issue with the computer, especially if both USB and the card reader isn't work. Try a different machine, and maybe do the email or external HD thing.

Yeah, my camera has no on board memory and I can still see the pictures when the card is in the camera.

The card reader is not a standalone one, it's installed into the tower.

I'll try to do the USB with my laptop, but I've got no card reader on the laptop.

Try the USB in the laptop and see if that works.

    It still uses a driver.

I know, you all were asking if I could try using the card reader on another machine, which I can't.

Edit: Nevermind, misunderstood what you posted earlier.

Not really sure who the company is who made that part of my machine... so how would I go about finding the driver for it?

    Re: Camera/Computer help

Go to the homepage of the laptop manufacturer. Search for drivers for your particular laptop.
Also, I am wondering if you used a different camera that is digital. Because that could cause your laptop to strike and you may need a SD/MMC reader/writer.

It's my desktop I'm having issues with. I was able to get the pictures onto my laptop using USB. Neither the USB or the SD card reader on my desktop are working to get the images off the camera.

Same procedure for desktops. What model is it? What OS are you running.

If it is an HP or Compaq, go here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...name=c01884924
Plug in the product, and then look under Software and Driver Downloads.
    Good luck!

most the time all you have to do is resit it. turn off the computer, pull the cable for the card reader, turn the computer back on all the way. Then shutdown, and resit the card reader. turn the computer back on, and it should re-install the driver. hopefully it work after.

He said it is internal but my Dell laptop will sometimes stop reading my onboard SD drive and this is what I do. Restart and everything is fine.

    Re: Camera/Computer help

plug in a ps/2 keyboard & mouse (round plug instead of usb)
    start > run > devmgmt.msc
right click and uninstall every item under universal serial bus controllers
    reboot

this will let you force a reinstall of the hardware without opening the computer up

if this doesnt work, and the sd card doesnt read in other computers, then the card is probably shot
