Why did you change the route? The original route was much more scenic, the current route was one I was going to suggest for the trip home to save some time. That stretch between Center and Saguache IS as straight as it looks, at least you can see for miles if you need to pass 20 cars at once I have ridden that loop (original route out, new route back) and it is a good ride except for that straight stretch. One bit of advice, I tried heading east from Four Corners across northern New Mexico and that was a waste. I cut north back up to 160 as quick as I could
The route i had originally planned to go to cortez was going to take tool long. the route i have planned now to get to cortez since its shorter will give us more sun time in the ruins so it will work to our benefit.
Depending on the time we can do a different route from four corners what do you think would be the best route back?
We should be back by Sat night right?

From Four Corners you need to go back to Cortez. The only other option is Shiprock, NM and that route is not that great. If you have the time I would take the Durango, Montrose, Gunnison route back, that is a ride i would not miss. i can do a whole vacation in that area of the state, I am not into camping so I will set up a base at a motel in Montrose and do day loops out of there. It is not all knee dragging canyon carving, take the time to enjoy the scenery. On that note 550 is definitely a no mistakes road, there are plenty of places where if you mess up it is a looonnng way down...
Be careful in Gunnison grim. I hear they have some Aliens fighting Predators there.

return trip route has been posted in the first post, the plan is to go to four corners from cortez at 0600 (takes 40min) take some snap shots of everyone having a limb in each state then head back home. If we are on the road from four corners by 0715 we should be back to moco by 1400. Anyone wanting to participate on this run will want to start practicing going to sleep at 9 pm and getting up at 0545 cause thats what itll take on this run
yup i need to buy a corbin seat otherwise my ass is gonna be feeling the intensive training!
just tell your wife to stick with her plans so you can go on this ride!!
Or you could tell her she owes me one since you couldn't make it to pikes peak and she has to let you attend this one!

Looks like you have a great ride planned, I would join you except for two things. First, getting a Friday and Saturday off in August is not going to happen and second I dont get up that early for anything! An all day ride for me is hitting the road around 10 and riding until dark
I think it's a mistake to skip Lake City but the ride will still be awesome! Wish I could go!
doing something in the SW vicinity of CO this weekend, but nothing solid yet.
I'm thinking about doing a black canyon ride this Saturday (500 miles).
hey you two boobs take this convo elsewhere this thread is about Cortez
