that is great about signs...grt for allstate, but i still hear that they have crap for cust. service.
Anyone think these signs will actually do anything though?
I'm not saying they will or won't, I'm legitimately curious as to whether a mere sign can actually do anything to help the problem...

it will for sure. warning signs are better than no warning signs.
I actually think it WILL help. It's not like soccer moms and the like are intentionally out to kill us, they're just painfully unaware of our existence. Couple that with the fact that sensory perception puts us in a "no threat to me" category for cagers due to our relatively upright position, and it's largely a matter of awareness. Signs can potentially help this a lot.
Of course, if they're on their damn cell phone, then no amount of signage will help us.

WTF does gear have to do with this?
You can put up a thousand signs telling people that motorcycle riding is dangerous and you will be assured of not dying on one if you don't ride one, which is a factual statement, but how many people are going to pay attention to it?
Allstate wouldn't spend money on it unless they think it will positively affect their statistics in regard to two+ vehicle motorcycle accidents.

I am curious where they get their statistics. From my knowledge in 2010 there were 82 fatal motorcycle accidents in Colorado. In 2009 they were around 70, I don't readily have that number but I know it was less than 2010's stat. If they really wanted to put their money to good use....REQUIRE driver's education to have at least a 20 minute segment on teaching people to watch for motorcycles!! But then again, Colorado doesn't even have a standardized curriculum for drivers education. Funny how they do for riding motorcycles!!

Maybe we just need a motorcycle proximity device installed in cars that, when triggered, reaches out and slaps inattentive drivers upside the head.

Soon cars will all drive themselves, and bikes will probably be banned, so we'll all be safer...

It's self preservation. When a bike is hit, they generally total the bike and the rider can take significant damage requiring medical care. Either they drop riders from the policies or this. It's got to be cheaper to throw up some signs than buy a bike twice a week.
I love the comments too (trying to register now).
"Did you see the biker riding between cars on I-25 and swerving in and out of traffic??? OMG !!!111!1!111!!!!!!!"
Hey moron, doing that is self preservation. You did see him right???

Hah! You can only use letters and numbers for a password and I can only log in using IE. Firefox on my Mac and Firefox on my Linux box just sit there. What a shitty site. I did leave my comment though

If it gets one person to look out for bikes and avoid even one potential accident, then it's a good thing.
Maybe we should all get patches and stickers that say...
"Loud Signs Saves Lives"
Firefighters find them hot, leave them wet
I agree with Slo. No matter what their motivation is, if a sign helps save even one rider then it's worth it. I'm skeptical, however, that the soccer mom talking on her cell phone is going to even notice a new sign to begin with. Hopefully some good will come from it.
