What are you stepping up from John?
Looks like Canon's "global announcement" party in Hollywood next week may be for a dedicated 4k digital video camera, and possibly not a dSLR at all. Something to compete directly with the Sony RED. Maybe those filmmakers will finally stop bitching about the "still photography bias" of Canon's DSLR line (even though - uh - still photography is primarily what dSLRs are for!)....

I’m still pretty convinced that the November 3, 2011 announcement in Hollywood will be in regards to a video camera or two. One of them will NOT be the 5D Mark III.

I'll be bummed if it's not the next of kin to the 5D. I've been storing my piggy bank under lock and key for the MKIII launch - I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer. I'd still welcome a low cost alternative to the Sony RED to the market any day of the week. The indie film world will probably go bananas if that's indeed what is coming.
Should be another exciting week for Canon fans and digital photographers/filmmakers in general.

Wicky, for us layman who think that both of those cameras look identical, what kind of improvements do you get from the D300?
(Yes, I know I could google it and find out for myself, but I assume he'll give me the 10 cent version without me having to read too much)
I haven't had to go to the doctor in about 3 years. Last time was for cracked ribs from snowboarding.
10 cent version & stuff you might care about... more megapixels, an autofocus body (so I don't have to manually focus my 50mm), more focus points in the viewfinder, better image quality at a higher ISO, more frames per second (continuously, it won't stop at 3 shots like the D40) and shooting track pictures, I'll be able to print out much larger prints. There's more, but I don't want you to fall asleep at work.

John, that's very cool. I'm curious - is that a universal RF popper, or will it only work with the SB's? Also, is it ETTL or just a basic trigger?
Regardless of the level of sync, it's nice to have some radio triggering built in. (I'm assuming radio - maybe infrared?)
