There is lube in the compressor itself. Also, most big "shop air" systems have an oiler in there to oil the air tools downstream of the compressor. The petroleum gets into the system, is extremely tough to get completely out, and will contaminate the fluid and destroy seals.

Do what you like, but I know of several people who had tp rebuild they system, replace all the seals (including master cylinder seals) AND lines because they didn't take my advice. The question is: do ya feel lucky punk? Well, do ya?
