correct me if I'm wrong, but you shouldn't have to reinstall the OS (assuming your HDD didn't fail)
boot from a recovery disk (btw, you don't have to buy from sony...just find one online), select advanced, command prompt and type these:
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr
disclaimer: i'm not 100% on the commands, and just doing this from memory...use at your own risk
