    Anyone been to the UK?

The USAF has recently moved me to England and I am waiting paitinetly for my bike to show up in my mailbox. Has anyone been here before? (lived, stationed, visited, out-of-body experience, etc) I am looking for some good roads.

Other places that I should check out would also be nice! I dont know very many people here yet but the ones I do dont ride
To the best of my recollection, I must recall on my memory, I cannot remember.

My wife is from Cornwall, down south in the country. From what I've seen whenever ive been there, things are fairly flat but the roads are narrow and almost never straight, and everybody drives tiny cars FAST everywhere... Just head towards the countryside and the coastlines and you should be set.

I'm in Suffolk. It's all country. I will pretty much enjoy it everywhere I go, I was just looking to see if anybody knew any specifics.

France, Germany & Spain are all better places to ride--or so all the British bike mags say.

I was in Frankfurt & Leipzig for a while, didn't have my bike but found some good back roads. Most of Germany reminded me of East Coast America, like riding in VA, PA or NYS.

But, for the UK I'd suggest Isle of Man & Scotland, one of my friends ride there about 5 yrs ago and said it was fantastic.

i lived in RAF upper heyford, oxfordshire. UK is bike heaven in summer. big bike culture, and way of life. some riders even make living as dispatch riders aka couriers. tons of pubs and fish &chip shops to hang out. tracks are awsome, they have some of the best tracks days in the world. you will also see some bikes never imported to north america. dont hype american riders like spies, roberts, rainey, swantz. they are very protective of their 2 wheel heros sheene, fogarty, dunlop etc. as a service men, you will enjoy cheaper gas and liquor, than what locals would pay. enjoy, you will love UK

I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. You will find no end to the amount of winding roads through the countryside. I would also take a trip to Wales and Scotland, much more hilly/mountainous. It's been nearly 4 years since I was there so I'm not recollecting any details but that's mostly because I wasn't riding when I was there.

I lived in Bath for a summer and it's a pretty cool place to visit. Lot's of history & such. Didn't have a bike at the time tho.

If you don't make it to London, you're doing yourself a disservice.

This is off-topic, but are you living in base housing? If you can live off-base, I advise you do it. F-15s take off at full burn, and while it's cool to watch, the novelty wears off after 2 days. It can get really noisy and annoying. I would recommend looking for housing in Brandon, Thetford, Newmarket, or Mildenhall (that's where I lived). Also, there's a Chili's in Cambridge which gave US Armed Forces a 10% discount.
