    its squid season already...

on my short commute home today (15 minutes) i spoted 3 squids and unfortunately one was waiting at the stop light behind/ next to me. it looked like a blue sv650, he had a helmet on which suprised me, no shirt, back pack, no socks and slip on low top shoes. i understand it was hot cuz i was sweating but do these people not understand what skin-graph means or the word death??? im sure more were spotted today...

I'm frequently guilty of comfy sneakers, something I'm trying to remedy more though.

I wear steel toe boots for several reasons, and not the least of which is the fact that upshifting in tennis shoes hurts.

Flip-flops are easy. Put the shifter between your toe and the flip flop and you're fine.

    Re: its squid season already...

Back in my college days, me and two roommates had only motorcycles. I had a CB750F, one roomie had a KZ650, and the other had a Z1R, which was the shitz at the time (early 80's). There's this park called Boomer Park in Stillwater, OK (Cowboys not Sooners!) that had some real nice S curves that we would take at 60 or so on a weekday when the park was empty. So one weekend when the park was packed, Larry (Z1R owner) comes ripping thru the S curves in jeans, flip-flops, no shirt, and sunglasses. Loses the front and bins it into the curb after sliding a while on concrete, and into the grass. Totaled the bike (broken frame) and we carted Larry off to the ER. He looked liked the Mummy with his road rash all wrapped up. He suffered like a dog for weeks with all the rash he had. Back then, a helmet and gloves was all the gear we ever wore. Not so sure Larry was a squid by today's standards, but he sure wasn't smart on that day. He's still a very good friend and I stay with him when I'm in Tulsa.

    This.

I've been here for 18 months now, coming up on two summers. I've sweat exactly ONE time...and I don't think it was even on the bike.

You want hot, go to Texass. 100* AND humidity that feels like you're in a washing machine on the extended wash cycle.

Colorado's hottest day is still phenomenal. Wear your friggin' gear.

I am all for wearing your gear. Whether its full leathers or just the jacket and jeans althought one could call the other a squid for having jeans on.

Seems that everyone has different opinions on what defines a squid. I think it started with new people seeing threads/pics of squids that have their helmets on the bike doing stupid things and started relating the two. Then they started just calling everyone without a helmet on a squid. Or they would call anyone with tennis shoes on a squid.....

For myself and many others, a squid is defined by his/her actions. Someone that does stupid sh*t around other innocent drivers/riders and endangers them. Whether its stunting, racing, swerving, showing off, etc.

Lately, I have seen more squids geared up, and the guys without gear just cruising. When I take out my stretched lowered Busa to the local starbucks and decide to not wear a helmet (i dont recommend this to others), that is my choice, but I still won't endanger anyone else doing so.

I started riding in Miami, where the temps are in the 90's and the humidity matched. Colorado isn't that bad. It does get warm, but nowhere near as bad as many states.

This is another reason I got a predominantly white jacket this time. I use to have a heavy duty black leather FirstGear back in the day, no more. Hot weather shouldn't be an excuse. These days I feel nekked without a helmet, lol.
