18th Annual Children's Hospital Toy Run - Pics on Page 3

It's that time of year again! For the third year, the Colorado Sportbike Club will be participating in the motorcycle Toy Run to Children's Hospital, sponsored by Rocky Mountain Harley Davidson, on Sunday Dec 7.

This ride grew to over 7,500 people last year! This time we want to make it even larger. Ride registration starts at 8:30 and the ride begins at 10am. As always, CSC members will meet up beforehand for some coffee and to get everyone together, so we can remain as one group amidst the sea of bikes.

The meeting spot will be our south location, the Starbucks at Quebec and County Line Road. To get there, take C-470 to Quebec (it's about a mile west of I-25), and turn North. On the NE corner of the next intersection (Quebec/County Line) you will see a shopping center with a Safeway, the Starbucks is on the east end of this center. There is an Amoco station if you need to gas up as well.

The meeting spot for the ride is at Santa Fe and Mineral; we will get there via 470 to Santa Fe. We will plan to leave Starbucks promptly at 9AM, this will give us plenty of time to get to the staging area, sign in, and mingle a bit/take pictures before the ride begins, and it'll hopefully be a bit warmer by then.

Last year we had quite a turnout from the club, and there is no limit to the number of bikes we can bring, so I hope to see you all there! Remember, bring a toy (unwrapped) for the kids!

For more information on the ride, you can visit the official site at:
    http://www.rmh-d.com/etc/toy_run.php

    See you all there!

WOW I forgot this was happening! I'm SO surprised! Sounds like fun!

I'm totally there. The best part about it is going to Target in bike gear and buying stuffed animals

    Some add'l info:

    - If it snows, of course we won't be riding, no one wants to be unsafe. However as long as white stuff isn't falling from the sky, we're going.

    - It will be cold in the morning, but once you see the bikes, the generosity, and the kids you are helping, I guarantee you will not care. Dress warm!

    - Bring cameras!

    - Let's meet at Breckenridge Brewery afterwards for lunch, they open at 11. They're a "CSC-friendly" location close to where we will be.

    - I am trying to score us free coffee at Starbucks that morning. My sister is a supervisor there, she's checking with her manager tonight and will let me know. Since this is for charity, the chances of it are good.

    - Wondering what kind of toy to get? I found this wish list on the Children's Hospital web site:

    Well

Not to sound like a dingey, uncharitable asshole, but I would love to go. What time does it normally end though? I do work in the afternoon that day (scheduled for 17:00)

We'll be done by noon, after that whoever wants to usually goes somewhere close by for some post-ride food and warming up. We tried the Wynkoop I think last time and they didn't want to accept money from a bunch of bikers (long story, it was pretty lame), however if Breck Brewery is open my vote is we go there - they always take care of us.

Ok, Starbucks is giving you all discounted coffee/pastries the morning of the 7th... Here's the catch: You have to pay cash! This is approved by the store manager but not corporate, so we're using a loophole.

To get your discounted coffee, go in and ask for Sarah (she's my sis), tell her you are in the ride. Pay cash. If you hand over plastic, you will pay full price, sorry. I think she's taking off 30%, so toss some coins in the tip jar.

Oops! I goofed... The Starbucks is on the NORTHeast corner of Quebec and County Line, and you should turn NORTH onto Quebec from C-470 (instead of South, like I originally said).

That will teach me to write up directions without my morning coffee first.

(thanks Gary for pointing that out!)

That will probably be easier said than done - last year there were over 7000 bikes. Do you have any idea how difficult it will be to find a group of ~30 that are sportbikes?

Seriously guys, the ride seems cold until you get there and see an absolute ocean of bikes, every one of them with gifts for sick children on the back. Whether you ride a sportbike or Harley does not matter, everyone puts their differences aside for a morning for a great cause. I would not be surprised to see near 10,000 people there on the 7th. Temperature will be secondary.

You never really get going fast enough on the ride to get cold- wear your normal gear and you'll probably be just fine- there's just not enough speed involved to generate a good wind chill. Last year I wore a sweater under my coat and got too hot. Tunnel vision? Do you need some cold weather pointers?

I'd like to attend as well. If it's snowing I may ride the Ural, though.
