I think I might try and head down there on Saturday at some point. I would enjoy watching the peach eating contest.
I spied a fresh batch of Palisade Peaches at Kings this am. No sign of RF Cantaloupes (yet)...
Quality Inn should be a decent place-- good price too.
I'm a sucker for the free cookie at Double Tree....

I'd go if I weren't slacking and running the Pikes Peak Ascent next Saturday. Stayed at the Quality Inn for the Peach Festival last time I rode there and it was decent.
Have fun and do the 5mi Peach Run for me!

I like mountains because they make me feel small.
If by do the 5mi Peach Run you mean eat peaches, drink beer, and watch other people run, then yes I will do the run for you.

Cool. My plan for Saturday so far is to hit the peach pancake breakfast and then go run the Grand Mesa Byway, comeback and checkout the happenings.

Sorry Hey-Metz....for pulling out like a 16yr old getting his first slice of the peach cobbler.
FYI- there is no gas in gateway. Top off in Naturita.
On Hwy 65, off of I-70 until it goes south, is faaast sweepers. Then from the top of the Mesa going towards Cedaredge is d-lish! Nice long corners. If you feel like something technical, take the DeBeque cutoff-45 1/2 rd.

Might not be gas in the town of Gateway.... But there is gas at the Gateway Canyons Resort, right off the hwy141 on the southwest side of town.FYI- there is no gas in gateway. Top off in Naturita.
FYI: might want to change your route from Montrose to Gateway, the one you have posted includes a lot of dirt miles. (unless you like ridding dirt)
To skip the dirt, head south out of Montrose to Ridgeway. Take a right at the only stoplight and in 110 miles your in Gateway.
Thanks for the heads up! I didnt know that was a large portion of dirt road, I'll be rerouting.

You guys missed a hell of a ride! It took 11hrs and 500 miles. Some of the most scenic and fun roads I've ever been on. The roads close to Denver got nothing on the gems out here. I ran into the founder of VFRD at a gas station in Gunnison when he and two other VFR's pulled in as I was drinking some coffee. It was cool to chat him up a bit. Had another bird commit suicide into my hand as well.
