Our first stop is in Gallup, NM and Clovis mentioned this:

I've never had a problem booking hotels upon arrival. The hotel in Gallup (I think it's a red roof inn) has a nice indoor pool and hot tub so bring your shorts.

As far as our second night in Grants, NM I have no idea.
