god I fucking hate lane splitting.
Lane split all the way from Palo Alto area to San Fran on a BMW with luggage. Worked out great.
Everyone cooperated with the exception of a lady in an Audi.
Works well in other countries too. You always have haters but that choice should be available to motorcyclists.
Meh I'm neutral. Do it, don't do it, whatever, just don't ride like a d-bag . In your lane or between them.

I could have posted this myself. GF and I took a long weekend trip to SF a couple weeks ago and I rented a big GS1200 with luggage and cruised down the coast to Big Sur and back in one long day. On the way back into town (on a Sunday night) we hit traffic and I got to lane split for the first time. It was awesome fun and a great way to get thru traffic! I spent about 6 years in CA going to school years ago, so I'm familiar with how it works, but I didn't have a street bike back then so I never got to try it. I totally wish we could do it here and even that short foray into the world of lane splitting left me with the urge to do it when I returned here; but I've been a good boy. Like was mentioned, the vast majority of countries around the world allow it and recognize it's advantages. Except us.

It's official. Gov Jerry Brown signed the bill into law on Aug 19.
