    2017 riding

Well somehow I managed to hardly get the bike out last year... gonna have to change that this year.....

I have a list of CO passes I have been checking off, so I am going to start planning some 1-2 rides to check those off.

Aug trip to the Gap, overdue on that one. The 10R needs to be broken in a tad....

Working on a two day ride in NM/AZ in May, planning on trailering to ALB and meeting a couple friends from TX to do that one.. since I have to provide 2 bikes for the bums...

Anyone care to join let me know.... I am based in Lake George so everything will be mapped from there, but easy enough to meet along the way. I work 21/21 so timing is flexible, I like riding on week days especially in the summer to avoid crowds....

So far as pace I like to run pretty brisk, and do long days... so keep that in mind....

Im thinking a trip to NM/AZ end of April, weather permitting. If that does not work, keep me posted about CO passes as I still have a few left to check off. How long are your days normally in a saddle?

I usually do 10-12 hrs depending on the roads. My list is 43 named, paved passes.. have 16 left to do. Another list of dirt ones that I am checking off with the Jeep...

I am looking at another one to head down south and catch 12, 14, and 160 passes.

The ones around Estes Park I am going to try and check off on my Wyoming trip later this year.. along with some in Montana

Plan right now is for May 5 weekend. I am trailering 3 bikes down to ALB and meeting friends from TX, then riding the weekend so they can fly back Sun evening.

What sort of time frame? I normally go up and stay at Fontana Village for a week, and it takes two days to drive to/from towing the bike. Depends on how much of the various roads people want to do. Either way it is a good 24 hr drive from CO.

I thought about riding one time, but my sticky tires only last maybe 1800 mile on the rear... not to mention droning down the interstate for 4 days has zero interest to me! LOL!

    Re: 2017 riding

Riding there is no bueno unless you have a bagger and lots of time. A week to 10 days is best for me. I've been there 3 times, flew and rented bikes in NC and ATL. Be nice to ride my own bike, and rental bikes are expensive. My brother lives in Mooresville and he will come out. BTW the Microtel in Robbinsville is great for lodging. Discount for riders, very good continental breakfast, clean and quiet. And there's a town there with grocery store, restaurants, gas, etc. Best to show up mid-week for riding and stay thru Saturday or Sunday night to experience the weekend ambiance. The whole area vibrates everything moto on the weekends. Late August or early September works best for me.

    Re: 2017 riding

I'll have to see how the Microtel compares to the cabins/hotel in Fontana Village. I like being off the beaten path, and we usually cook in the cabin a few times to save a buck or two. Fontana Village has discounts as well, restaurants, gas, general store, ice cream parlor all kinds of stuff. Plus it is smack on NC 28 which is a great road.

Not a lot in Lake George, but surrounded by good, uncrowded riding roads. How is the pizza joint there?

MAD VLAD!!! I used to love just driving my truck out there! Can't even imagine what it would be like on a bike, there is also a bad ass road from Malibu to Simi or Silicone Valley I forget, I drove it once and was like...(" I wonder what this would be like on two wheels?!") if I'm not mistaken, that is FULL of twisties and canyons, try and look it up on a map!

    AZ 191 worked out well.

Next trip is to check off a handful of passes left down south, 2 day trip with overnight in Taos, and a stop at Bishops castle on the way back.
Day one is around 420 miles, breakfast at Jans in BV. Dates TBD, sometime in June

I'll probably do a couple day rides to hit a few more passes off I-70 and maybe do a Black canyon run since it's been a couple years.

Apparently Guanella Pass is now paved, so I can check it off along with a couple others on a day trip:
