175hp on one dyno, 155hp on another, it's just a number, my 175hp bike is faster in a straight line than a 190hp bike i know of...

Aaron- Maybe you were faster in a straight line cause you don't slow down even through the corner that follows? Just a hunch...

I'm curious who's dyno as well. Just had my 04 10R on a dyno yesterday and it's at 155hp currently and 78ft lbs of torque

just a random observation why does the slip show 87 octane fuel.. i would think the zx10 runs on premium fuel instead of mid grade...kind of fishy

Re: Ricky Gadson's ZX10R = 175 HP!
My mechanic told me that 85 or 87 is better to run than the premium because it contains more oxygen. I don't know how true this is, but I have always run 87 and the bike seems to run fine.

Re: Ricky Gadson's ZX10R = 175 HP!
My understanding is that octane is a knock inhibitor- that is, it helps to prevent predetonation. Somehow (I am so NOT a chemical engineer, and I didn't take internal combustion as an elective because the class here sucks) more octane means possibly less horsepower. So it works out that you should run the least amount of octane as possible.
Up here at altitude, we can get away with a bit more than people at sea level- due to, I think, atmospheric pressure being so much less... Example. On my Aprilia Mille, I would run the lowest octane gas I could find with no problem. My street 'tard has 12.2 to 1 compression, again, cheap pump gas with no problem. Over 13:1 and I'd start paying attention, but below that, low octane. Other knowledge? |
