    CCT noise

The OEM CCT on the F4i started going out on me at the end of last year, and so I just replaced it with a manual APE unit. Pulled the valve cover, set the engine to TDC #1 before removing the old and installing the new. Per the suggestions on the various threads I've read, I tightened the bolt by hand until it got pretty snug, and then I tightened down the lock nut.

However, now when I ride I hear a very loud and distinct metallic "whirring" noise that changes in pitch and volume with the RPM and engine load. It's coming from the right side of the bike, so I'll have to assume that's where the noise is coming from - the CCT. It's not supposed to clank or ping, which it doesn't do... but I don't know if this whirring noise is normal. I guess I got so used to the "BBs in a coffee can" noise from the OEM CCT that I forgot what a normal, healthy one sounds like.

For those whom have replaced these, is this a normal sound?

Back the adjustment off about 1/4 to 1/3 turn.... you're a touch too tight.
