    Ski snowboard clothing question

So what features/functionality should the pants and jackets have?

Personally, I don't see what you gain by purchasing a $250 pair of snowboard pants over a $80 pair. Is there that much of a difference?

I personally don't care much about colors, etc. Where is a good place to get last years stuff on sale? I am not what we would call "fashion forward". I am waiting until white socks with everything comes back into style.

Pockets.. if you don't want to wear a backpack you want many pockets like a pair of cargo pants. Good zippers, preferably some zipper vents for those spring days. Knee and butt protection against abrasion; an extra layer or tougher material in those regions, cause boarders seem to be on your knees and butts a lot.

How well it insulates against cold is up to you. Some like to wear sweats underneath, others like to just deal with one layer.

    Re: Ski snowboard clothing question

    to answer your questions....

there are a lot of differences between an $80 and a $250 pair of pants and jacket.

right off the bat you can add about $60 to any jacket or pants that has Gore-tex. (it's a type of material that wicks away moisture. It pretty much makes your gear 100% waterproof.) Up in the mountains out here there's really no need for Gore-tex, the snow is dry. On the west and east coast the snow is a lot wetter.

The next thing your buying is breathability and waterproofing. The higher the rating as in 15K mm or 25K mm the more it's able to breath and the more it wicks away moisture.

The next thing you're getting are more luxuries. Things like fully taped seams, removable snow gaitors, ipod and goggle pockets. etc...

For spring and early season conditions anything with a rating of 5K/10K is perfect. For regular season 10K - 25K is the way to go.

If you're lookin for a deal come to Ski Expo, Nov. 7-9th, at the Denver convention center. Come find me and i'll hook ya up.

I got a pair of Bonfire pants (Soloman makes them I think) 100 bucks, and have lasted years now. I'd say look for comfort, water resistance and toughness. Leg gaiters are a nice thing to have too, especially in powder.

I don't know, I think the fur is making a comeback this season.
